Toronto/Plano/Atlant…

Is it possible to port from koodo to koodo ?

I have a Koodo 48$ Manitoba plan ( with a 416 number), for the last 3-4 years.

I do see some members here selling koodo plans with more data and a lower monthly fee ($45 for 8GB)

My question is, if I takeover one of those plans, can I port my number ( hence cancelling the plan) from the old Manitoba plan to the new plan ?

Buy a Koodo prepaid sim and port to that. Then you can port back into the plan you desire

You can port the number to a bell prepaid by getting the sim cards for a couple of dollarsn on eBay.

I think koodo prepaid SIM cards are much more expensive.

But if you port out to Bell, it'll be a pain in the ass porting back to Koodo (Koodo won't release your number from their system for 30 days, if I recall). Less hassle to port out to Koodo prepaid and then back in to Koodo postpaid.

Didn't know that. I haven't tried putting out of koodo and back. Thanks for the information.

Yup, if you're doing the port-out-then-port-in thing, better to go Koodo. If you're just porting out to cancel on a phone churn, Bell's much easier.

What are the steps involved in going from Prepaid to postpaid and keeping the same number, but with a Quebec plan in Ontario? I also have a couple of new Koodo SIM cards.
Thanks

The steps would be the usual Quebec plan process (sign up for a temporary ontario number, switch to a QC number in self serve, then switch to a QC plan, then port in your prepaid Koodo #)

Would porting from Koodo to public mobile prepaid be just as good as Koodo prepaid?

i'm asking because public mobile still has a promo at some stores for a free sim card where koodo prepaid seems to cost $20 for the sim.

Better because of the promo as you correctly point out. They are all in the Telus family which means the port takes a minute or two to complete.
Koodo $35/5GB and $40/6GB
Public Mobile 2016 fall promo $120/12GB/90 days
Fido $0/3GB
Rogers $25 500U home internet

Does the port *back* still work as smoothly, though, if you're doing it immediately? The whole reason for going Koodo-to-Koodo is because they remove your number from their postpaid system immediately when you port to Koodo prepaid. I'd hope they're smart enough to recognize when you're going to PM, but we've often seen Telus screw the pooch in a LOT of ways with stupid shit like this, so I dunno if it's ever safe to assume anything. Lol.

I was on the Public Mobile 12 Gig $120 plan and recently took the 8 gig $45 plan. The port took less than 5 minutes. Just need to reboot the phone

Of course I got screwed. The day after I ported, they offered an 8 Gig $40 plan with $180 bill credits netting to $25 per month for the first year.

Port time isn't the issue when doing a port-out/port-right-back-in... The issue is that when you port out from Koodo to a carrier other than Koodo (Virgin or Bell, for example, since they have such cheap sims on ebay and you can port out to their prepaid without having to top up), and then try to port back in to a different Koodo account, you can't do it right away because Koodo hasn't released your number from their system yet (I think it takes them 30 days) - but if you port from Koodo postpaid to Koodo prepaid, they release the number from their postpaid system immediately. The question here is if they also do that if you port to PM, and I don't know of anybody that's done that.
