Is it possible to see a dermatologist for my dog without a reference from my vet?

I'm in Scarborough but anywhere in the GTA would do. My dog has been struggling with hot spots for the past 2 months. I've been knee-deep in research and I don't need additional suggestions as I'm aware of them all and already applied them all.

What I do need to know is whether a referral from my vet is absolutely necessary to have access to a terrific dermatologist for my dog.

Thanks!

Find one that has dermatology as a part of their practice and make the appointment. Even though some vets specialize in certain procedures/operations they still would probably maintain a general practice in order to make their business viable. Otherwise, there would be too few clients for the specialty medicine they provide. Of course the easiest way to find such a specialist is to just ask your vet.
