Post your worst RFD buy/sell experiences!
This isnt from RFD, but oh my god, what a terrible sale transaction I just had this morning! Not only was she half hour late, but tries to jip me.
I just sold my 1GB stick of laptop ram, but man did the buyer ever make it a lot more difficult than it really should have been. She called me few days ago and said she would like to come pick it up from my place today. I said I couldnt, but she insisted. So I said alright, at 11am sharp as I have to be somewhere, but I guess she had class so she couldnt make it earlier. I gave her simple yet straight across directions on how to get here and asked her 2x, she confirmed "yes I know how to get there."
Already 5 mins late, I call her to see where she is. She says that shes lost (Im like uhhh), from the description she was about 2 min drive from me. So I went over the directions again, which was like first left, first right and bam. So she says will be here in 5mins. 5 mins she calls back, says she has to find a map, Im like WTF?
I said, I will come to her as I was heading out, but she didnt even know where she was, as she missed the turnoff and now ended up onto the main road even further than she was before. She didnt even know the roads, so here I am trying to give directions to someone when I have no idea what road they are on. I told her I would give her another 5 mins, by this time its already 20 mins past.
Nothing in 5 mins, so I left and as I was about 30 seconds from my house, she calls - she goes "Im here." So I had to turn around back to the house, now being late as its 30 mins past the time we said to meet. She gets out of her car, and gives me total attitude, that road was "so and so", blah blah blah whatever. I didnt even say anything, since she doesnt know how to read street signs. So what does she do? Tries to short me, about $50!!! Luckily, I counted it as she took the product, and right after she was walking rather fast back to her car. I told her she's $50 short, and she acted so surprised. "Oh I am? I thought we agreed on $60" Ya whatever, and not even any apologizes for being late and so on.
I think I was nice enough to meet at a time where I was pushing it, just because she said she wanted it today.

Doubt it, shes actually from a car site. But if she happens to come here, then my pleasure to let her read in
Good lord, what a terrible person in taking directions. Not only that, but she was giving me attitude when I was giving her directions. I mean how hard is it to follow, make 2 turns from when she was lost, but yet she didnt even know what direction she was facing - north or south
I would say, she was very close to getting away with short changing me, another 5 seconds her car door would have shut and all she would have to do is take off.
heck, I even emailed her the link to mapquest on how to get here, since she kept on saying how she didnt need one lol.

Yip, I got lucky though. And the first $60 she gave me, was in 5's ,like what the? Obviously it was planned, paying in 5's in very fishy. Obviously used so it would take me longer to count, giving her more time to get away.
I was nice the whole time, but then again I wasnt in the mood to be taking her crap.

Learning to estimate cash count by sight is a great skill to have.
$50 dollars missing is quite noticable especially in 5's.
Or just pratice flipping through bills rapidly like the bank tellers do, that way you will never get short-changed again. (Or better yet, hand over the merchandise after you complete the count)

usually i let ppl see me count the money.
i have only positive feed back about my dealings, one person i bought ram off of gave me my money back when i told him i didnt work in my PC. i was actually suprised.
when dealing with money and people you just met you have to be street smart. counting the money and/or inspecting the item in person is one thing i always do .

I'm not going to comment on this, but there's such a thing as being proactive to avoid mishaps like this. When I make a deal to sell something, I always send them a link to my address on googlemaps. For example, here's one for the address 1800 Sheppard Ave E, which is Fairview Mall.
http://maps.google.ca/maps?q=1800+Sh...A7,+North+York
Just change the number, street name, postal code, and city to your own.
As for the money, perhaps count the money first before handing over the goods.
As for the timing, suggest in the pm before hand to come on time, or earlier as you will be gone after that time. If buyer shows up late and you are gone, they can't blame you. In the end, it was your choice to wait for the buyer - not something you can really gripe about when the decision was your own.

As the others have said, I never hand out the product or let them leave till I count the money. I'm a bit paranoid that there are less than honest people out there but I've been lucky to have dealt with really nice people. I think it's good to the buyer to count the money and the seller to show the buyer the product before the exchange. Well that's what I do anyway. Also if you're willing to sell something waiting 30 mins is nothing as I had to wait 1hr for a guy before since he missed his bus. I guess the only difference with me is that my guy was really nice and called me to say he was late, well a lot late. hahaha

Dude, she was 30 minutes late. He's gonna be late for his events, plus he took **** from her while she was lost. Don't let me get started on paying less than what it was supposed to and trying to leave the site before he finished counting the money.
I think you got some issues. Try to be in someone's shoes.

By the same token, as I buyer, I wouldn't want to hand over the cash for the seller until I have the product in my hand.
