anyone have problems with powerdvd?

Mine won't do a lot of stuff, such as allow me to slide the navigational bar or it will play black and white video.

It says my DVD is damaged in the introduction video clip, but I just bought it brand new so I doubt it's damaged.

I entered the serial but it still won't let me do this stuff.

i've never liked it.. i prefer windvd and have never had any problems with it.

never had that problem w/ the video, and the only time i couldn't slide the tracking/nav bar around is on the extra features clips on random dvds .. guess they can lock that some how

I'm running PowerDVD XP and never had any problems. Although it seems to be stricter than WinDVD SVCD playback. I have some discs that PowerDVD reports as "unsupported format" but will play in WinDVD. I just prefer the PowerDVD interface over WinDVD.

I use powerdvd xp all the time. I like it better than windvd platnium because of it's multi monitor support.

What videocard are you using? Is hardware acceleration checked? Try turning it on/off and see if it makes a difference.

Now I'm using the ATI DVD player only b/c it has the Thruview feature.

The ATI player is WinDVD if I'm not mistaken.

i find PowerDVD to have the most intuitive and user-friendly interface compared with ATI and WinDVD

ATI's just tended to crash too often, and WinDVD just doesn't seem like they have as much features

nope, but the latest version is built by the same company, that programs windvd. which is the main reason if you had an older version of ATI software and you wanted the latest cd with MMC 8 and latest ATI DVD player you had to pay ATI $10 for it.

Can PowerDVD decode DTS DVDs on my computer? Or will I need to somehow acquire a DTS receiver/decoder?? Or will my soundcard do that?

I'm trying to DTS with PowerDVD. I have a Hercules Fortissimo III 7.1 soundcard, and Logitech Z640's....what else do I need?

It occaisionally screws up on region coding and tells me I have only 5 more times to change my region. But there's always 5 left so it is not really counting.

Never had problems with the navigation slider or anything like what you have described as trouble.

Have you done a removal and reinstall?


Gdog - your setup should work fine for Dolby decoding of all kinds. Not all DVD's are in 5.1 etc. And even ones that are in 5.1 are often only Dolby 2.0 during the menu or previews, which can make you think that your sound system is not decoding properly.

I tried to play a reauthored, movie-only backup of Collateral...encoded only with DTS 5.1 audio to reduce compression. I get video, but no sound. Other DVDs work fine, but when it comes to DTS audio, I can't hear anything!

I'm using PowerDVD 6 Deluxe btw.
