Pressed pennies - those machines in tour places where you insert a penny + x-amount of coin and the end result is a flat penny with some neat picture on them.
Does anyone know how much it costs to get one of those penny in disneyland? I want to ask my friend to help me get a few but not sure how expensive they might be.

Im heading to Disney World (not Disney Land) in 2 weeks, and I know they cost $0.51. I've collected a handful.
I would assume the same for DisneyLand

Majority of them are .51 cents but there a few that were $1.25 if I remember correctly.
The end of result was the same concept but instead of having the image pressed onto a penny it was pressed onto a quarter therefore, getting a much bigger image. My opinion I liked the ones on the quarters a lot better. Plus you can even get a passbook holder so you can put your pressed pennies into them - just so they look prettier.Last edited by pingwinki; Sep 28th, 2007 at 01:42 PM.

I thought it was illegal to destroy or deface government currency?

+1 They are the same at Disneyland. Different patterns, of course, but same cost.
Stay away from the plastic penny holders - from experience I can tell you that it is near impossible to get the pennies out once they're in and over time they will discolour - you are better off to just put them in a memory book or photo album.
There's a disclaimer on all of the machines in the U.S. that says basically it is not illegal to press pennies so long as it isn't done for fraudulent reasons.
In Canada, however, it is illegal. So, the machine you find in places like Niagara Falls utilize a separate holder that contains either a 'slug' or a penny from another country (like the U.S.) that the operator has loaded into it so that even if you put a Canadian penny into it, the foreign penny or slug is the one that is actually pressed and you aren't actually pressing a Canadian penny.Last edited by ccubed; Sep 28th, 2007 at 03:57 PM.

But why would you be taking them out of the plastic holder once you put them in? It's just nicer to put it in the plastic holders that is made for them. I have had my plastic holder for 7 years and shows no signs of discolouring or anything on mine.

You take them out to move them around - unless you can perfectly plan for the future... For example, I have some from a certain place and then a few years later I will go back and get a new one from that place.. I assume in your holder you just add the new one to the next available space.. I prefer to keep like ones together.. which means moving them around when I get a new one..
