Price for 70-200L f/4?

Hi Guys,

So I recently have been considering adding another lens to my collection, and this is a much overdo addition but it is the 70-200L f/4. I don't need advice on the lens selection or anything like that, but more or less what is a good deal in the used market and if I should buy new or used.

Currently I am looking at 70-200L f/4 locally for $600 which seems fair but I checked my old PMs and noticed I was about to buy a 70-200L f/4 a year ago for $540. I also noticed Henrys and other retailers running Canon rebates and making the lens somewhat attractive since it would also have warranty.

I checked photoprice.ca for retail pricing but am sure you guys would have a better idea on what I should be looking at price wise.

Thanks in advance.

Average price range is between $550 & $600 depending on age of the lens.

Anything below $550 in my opinion you are getting a pretty good deal (depending on age & accessories such as filters)

This is going to be on my future to have list too

Aden has it for $709 new.

I believe its $599 US new + shipping? I would rather buy new in US than paying $550-600 for a local used one.

btw, as a side note, how does this F4 compare to the Simga and Tamron F2.8?

given they are in similar price range

Everything was way cheaper last near.

November 2008, even the Canon 580EX II flash, was being sold used for as low as $350!!!
Finding it for a price like that is a super steal.

The 70-200 F/4 is about $500 - $600 used.

Compared to the Sigma/Tamron F/2.8 versions, I don't know about the Tamron, but the Sigma, I read a review that had a chart set up.

The Sigma performs at shorter focal lengths, and the Canon performs at the longer.

I also read from users that the first 2 versions of the lens from Sigma are better than the later 2 "Macro" versions.

Haha, I have to reconsider coming on RFD for money saving advice  .

Luckily my MBP is doing fine after further inspection (opened it up to make sure nothing else happened inside), seems the DVD drive is the only thing messed up (still works but any degree of tilt and it makes horrible noises) but the case has absolutely no damage. I would have to say if I had a regular laptop, I would at least be dealing with lost data + a cracked case.
