I'm thinking of parting with my Inspiron 300m for a desktop. Reason is because I'd like to build a desktop for the fun of it, perhaps mod the case a little too.
I'm just wondering if I were to sell all of the following for $1500, would there be people interested? The reason why i'm not posting this in the BST forum is because I won't be able to sell it unless I know for sure there are ppl interested. But also I'd just like to see if you guys think its a fair price for it.
I purchased it for $2300 tax included. It is EXACTLY one year old. It had a 1 YR warranty, but I think you can call dell to extend it. Its in PERFECT condition. No dead pixels. Never had any problems with it, no stupid smily face problem either.
Did they discontinue selling the 300m?? I can't find a product page link to it on the dell site anymore...
Here are the specs of the laptop:
Dell Inspiron 300m
- Intel Pentium M 1.2GHz Low Voltage Processor
- 256 MB PC2100 DDR Memory (2 x 128MB, you can upgrade one slot if you wish)
- 30 Gigabyte Hard Drive
- 12.1" XGA TFT LCD Display and Intel Extreme 2 Graphics using 64MB shared memory.
- Integrated AC'97 Audio
- 4x DVD+R/CD-RW Combo Drive in Media Base Unit
- Floppy Drive
- v.92 Kbps Modem
- 10/100 Ethernet
- 802.11b Wireless Card
- 2 USB 2.0 and 1 FireWire Port
- 10.8" x 9.2" x 1" @ 3 lbs. (without Media Base)
- Windows XP Home Operating System
- 2 Power Adapters
- Battery lasts for about 2 hours (you can purchase bigger batteries if need be)
- Media Base which has an integrated subwoofer, an additional 2 USB 2.0 ports, serial port, holds the DVD burner, and some other ports which I can't remember
On top of the laptop, I'd give a bunch of stuff I bought for it for free:
- Targus Laptop Case ($60)
- Labtec Wireless Optical Mouse ($35)
- Logitech MX 500 Corded Optical Mouse ($50)
- 256 MB USB Key ($55)

I have no need nor interest for a laptop; just wanted to get that out first.

Honestly, I think $1500 is a bit much. I just bought a Toshiba Satellite for my sister with similar specs (CPU's a lot faster, but no DVD burning ability) for $1300 including tax.
The extras you're bundling in for free help, but probably not to the $1500 limit, unless you're paying to extend the warranty.

Pricing
I have this posted
/fs-compaq-evo-n610c-111853/
The best offer I got was $1000. I also threw in a Targus Bag, Wireless etc.
So, I am probably going to let it go at that price

Nov 5th, 2004 03:00 PM #4...really? i thought dropping it down $800 bucks and adding in all that other stuff would be a good price...mostly because like the laptop is in mint condition, i barely took it anywhere with me, always stayed at home, so no real wear and tear on it.

but yea i'm just looking for a few different opinions before i consider selling...

Nov 5th, 2004 07:29 PM #7No Media Base, but the CPU is 2.8 GHz, the graphics was ATI brand Radeon Mobility, HD was 40 GB, screen ~2" bigger, etc...

Laptop prices seem to have dropped a lot in the last year, not the greatest time to sell.

Nov 5th, 2004 08:01 PM #8that's not even remotely close to a valid comparison. You're listing a Toshiba Satellite something along the Lines of an A70, which has basically crap battery life, and is a desktop replacement.

The 610C is a closer comparison, but again it's not in the same class of laptops. 1000 for that machine is a pretty good deal though.
The 300m's have been discontinued in favour of the 700m (I believe, don't quote me on this), and so I think you're best off at gauging your price against the 700m. You could compare to an ultra portable from another brand like a Toshiba Protege or a IBM X series, but those are higher quality machines so again it is not a direct comparison.
Personally, I think 1500 is a decent price. The laptop by itself should still be worth around 1200-1300, and that's only because of the Dell EPP deal in the summer where a bunch of people grabbed one for 1350. Having said that, RFD ers are cheap bastards (myself included), and they seem to have this inate ability to band together and all lowball a seller until they lower the price from a good deal to a great deal. This is especially true for high ticket items like laptops.
To me the thing that hurts the value the most is that it's now out of warranty. It could be just me, but I'd never buy a laptop that's out of warranty just in case something happens.
What could also hurt you is the Dell 750 off 1500 deal that just transpired. It's basically flooded ebay with 700m's (which are the closest thing dell offers to your machine) with better specs than yours (but no DVD burning) for around 1000 US, which translates into 1200 ish cdn.

Nov 5th, 2004 09:14 PM #10umm...there's a reason laptops are classifed as:

Smaller machines carry a price premium. Try telling someone with an IBM X31 that their 2.8 pound machine is worth less because you can buy a Toshiba Satellite A70 with a P4 2.8 ghz processor and more processing power, and they'll laugh at you.
People who use laptops for laptop purposes will tell you that DTR's aren't real laptops. You can't lug an 8 pound machine that has a 14 x 12 inch base onto a plane and use it.

300m replaced by 700m (widescreen 12.1" screen).. only thing i don't like about it is it's 1.5" thick (the 700m) while the 300m is quite thin if i remember
yes that's a good price..however comparing to klam it seems expensive (even with your added items)
and ULTRAPORTABLES are much more expensive than DESKTOP REPLACEMENTS .. as well as their pentium 4-m counterparts
that toshiba can NOT be used as a good comparison.Last edited by rp_guy; Nov 5th, 2004 at 10:26 PM.

The comparison to the Toshiba Satellite is invalid. The 300m is an ultraportable and as such, will command a higher price than a Toshiba Satellite.
FYI, I sold a 300m on eBay for $1215 a few weeks ago to a local GTA buyer. The one I had was bare, no extras.
I learned that you can't sell anything on RFD for a good price. All these guys are cheap bastards!
Better take it to eBay and get some better value...
