So this is an Australian electronics company that went under.

They had a HUGE stockpile of batteries right before they went down under(pun intended)

So now the batteries got liquidated and made their way to the other side of the world.
According to former company secretary and investor relations head David Cooke, the company had enough Dick Smith AA Battery 40-packs to cover demand for 141 months - almost 12 years. Three months before the company collapsed, it also had 131 months worth of Dick Smith AAA Battery 30-packs.

Dick Smith collapsed after downgrading the value of stock it held. Much of it was obsolete with little prospect of anyone buying it. Administrators were appointed on January 4 and the last day of trading was May 3.

A comment from someone there:
After about 2-3 years the regular AA/AAA battery would be completely flat.

Another review found from a few years ago, showing pic of a 9v battery is here.

More comments here about the batteries made in China, and leaking.

I'll pass on those batteries.

I can't imagine how cheap these would have had to be for PA to buy them and move 'em here, and they still aren't cheap enough for NOS cheap MIC batteries that at best will have weak capacity or short lifespans... and at worse leak everywhere.

There is a dollar store at vodden and Kennedy in Brampton that sells Dick Smith double A and triple A batteries in the 40 bulk pack for only 5 dollars. And they are of pretty good quality.

McFrugals in Duncan, BC has a pile of Dick Smith accessories.

The laptop chargers come with Australian plugs on them too. I'm surprised they still sell them!
