I get 55 + connected to PIA using the Toronto server.
Mmmm I can't pull good speeds from that one. You must be really close to the server.

I don't think the speeds depend on the ISP but how close you are to the server.

If you are not aware, it is an exploit in PIA's servers that allows an attacker to find out your real IP. If it is fixed then I apologize but last I heard, PIA claimed it was fixed but independent testers determined it was still not fixed. PIA is not the only provider that is suffering from this BTW but since this is a PIA thread I thought I would bring it up. Again, not trying to start a flame war.

I live about 100 km away from the Toronto server but I still get these speeds when I connect to the New York City server so I don't think that has anything to do with it .

ok yeah I ended up canceling then. I figure I'll get this deal anyways but I'll wait a few weeks.

Are you sure it was Boxing Day? PIA is an American company and it's unlikely they have Boxing Day sales.

How are you connecting to PIA? Through their app? Through your router?

I'm 2713 kilometers from Toronto. Like I said the closest server to me is Seatle and that one does give me over 20Mbit/s

So far no issues with speed. My internet is 50/15 and I get full speed with PIA.

Also try the Midwest server.
I just set it up this way. I'm not sure if I can set it up this way on Android or IOS though

Mid West is giving me about 20Mbit/s, East Server is giving me about 15Mbit/s and now Seatle only gives me around 11Mbit/s

Looks like right now usage on the servers is heavy.

To test things out, you should go with the lowest security connection (PPTP). This will let you see your maximum speed. They are located here under Other Guides: https://www.privateinternetaccess.com/p ... t-support/

WITHOUT -> http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/4923347946

WITH PIA connected to Toronto -> http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/4923338593

Connected to US East (NYC) -> http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/4923366779

I am 100 klms away from Toronto. There is always a consistent 4-5 Mb/s difference for years now, that's all.
I have been a PIA subscriber for over two years now, and am quite happy with their service.

I don't think you understood my post. A DNS leak is not the same as the port fail attack. If you are using a VPN for anonymity, you should really research what the port fail vulnerability is and make a solid decision.

Also as I mentioned before, if I am wrong and PIA has properly fixed the issue then I apologize.

Best bet I think is getting one year, it seems every few months more VPN companies coming out and with more deals meaning more competition meaning better prices.

Here's a post on that:

One of those providers contacted was Private Internet Access (PIA), which has all ready patched the issue and stated that the fix was relatively simple and implemented shortly after it was notified.

PIA's Amir Malik told Techworm what it had done to rectify the issue:

"We implemented firewall rules at the VPN server level to block access to forwarded ports from clients’ real IP addresses. The fix was deployed on all our servers within 12 hours of the initial report.

PIA also paid Perfect Privacy $5,000 USD for discovering the flaw.
