What are some of the school related pet peeves that u have?


- Profs that dont post lecture notes online.
- Profs that have a boring voice
- Profs that call themselves Doctor, I know your technically a doctor, but u are my prof, not my doctor.
- TA's that mark too hard
-TA's that dont give full participation marks
- Students that always ask questions during lectures
- Students that always stay after lecture to ask the prof a question
- Having a final the next day and making this thread instead of studying....

- those who don't participate

- Profs that can't speak proper english for the regular students to understand but also too engrish for the ESL students to understand
- night classes (especially 3 hour long night classes)
- Terrible caf food
- Finding people you don't know lying in front of your door with a patch of vomit under them
- Having drunks try to open your door because they think it's their room
- Getting too drunk and then going to subway to sober up but end up sleeping on the benchseats and having the employees kick you out
- People that shave their pubes in the stairwell and leave a surprise pile for the next person that uses the stairs
- People (girls) that stand in the hallway just outside your door making calls to their boyfriends because they think they won't wake anyone up if they're calling in the hallway
- Dicks that ask for your student registration papers when you wanna buy a ticket at greyhound

Macroeconomics exam at 9AM for me.
I had pretty good profs throughout the whole year.. except for 1.
Thickest accent in the world, basically read from the textbook (with his accent! Which made it nearly useless to attend lecture... since you can just read from the textbook and probably understand more at home), holds really pointless tutorials (I remember travelling for 1 hour to attend my 1 hour tutorial... and he goes "so... what do you guys want to do?")
On top of that, he has absolutely no good ratings on rate my profs.com, lol
Only prof I ever had problems with

-Idiot students who feel showing up is somehow an achievement
-Students who didn't prepare at all and expect things to be spoon-fed to them
-Students who complain about deadlines, and then complain about getting marks back late
and my personal favorite
-Students who complain how hard a course is, or about the amount of time homework takes, or labs take, or whatever takes, yet for the entire semester, all they talked about was getting drunk the night before and whatever wild party is coming up this weekend. well duh!

- people who constantly talk in class...not whispering, but talking outloud
- people who comes to class with their laptops and watch tvb dramas while the lecture is going on or read manga off their laptops
- people who the read newspaper or does the crossword the whole lecture
- profs who make exams that have 50% class average (it's the students fault in most cases, but you know what i mean!)

I'm in HS, but:

Teachers who give due dates, and then continue to push the due date further and further ahead. The original due date for our French oral project was over a month ago and we still haven't done it. Stupid twit...

-students that ask numerous leading questions during lecture that aren't related to today's topic (or are consistently injecting their own opinion into the topic).
-prof's that can not be reached out of class.
-marking (prof's/ta's) with little/no feedback or means of discussion available on how to improve.

In response:
- Students who are too reliant on being spoon-fed and cannot figure out a system to aid them when profs don't post lectures on-line (b/c not all profs like to use powerpoint)
- Profs can't help what kind of a voice they have, but you can figure out why you can't seem to enjoy the material no matter how "boring" the voice may be
- Dr. is an academic title. Socially, it's used by the lay person for Physicians, Dentists and Optometrists, and in that setting, that is implied. However, in academia, they should be referred to as Dr. unless they otherwise state. Not even sure why this is an issue - if you spend 10+ years earning your Doctrine of Philosophy, maybe you'd like to be called one too. It's more than being a "doctor of medicine". It's a sign of respect if you will.
- TA's that mark hard - well, find out why they're hard. There has to be someone who did well. Talk to them and find out why you performed so poorly and put forth genuine effort to improve instead of whining - it's counter-productive.
- Marks are earned, not "given". If you truly deserve the full participation marks, then by all means. Asking one question in class doesn't count. Meet up with the TA outside of office hours, discuss the material in more depth. Don't expect full marks for sitting in class unless that is what the prof. stipulated as being the requirements.
- Students may ask questions, but the flow is fully controlled by the prof. The prof. can state at anytime whether enough questions has been asked and refer the student(s) to office hours. Kudos to students who have genuine and well thought-out questions. If material is unclear, good for them for asking for clarification.
- Good for the students who stay after lectures to ask the prof questions. They're taking an active role in learning. You should probably become good friends with those people, they're likely at the cream of the crop in the class. Even if they're not, their work ethic is something beneficial in the long run if it rubs off on you.

One of the main things I hate about university is the inconsistency among TA's. Some people get by with a breeze, and others have a really rough time. It makes a difference when that component of the course is 20-25% of the grade.

Turns out the kids that complain about professors are the ones who do horrible in school.

When I was in school, some of my pet peeves were :

- Profs that give really easy exams and then give people who got 88% a C+ because of the curve.
- Profs that use super-expensive text books and only assign one chapter of it during the whole semester.
- Profs that use super-expensive text books that they wrote.
- Profs that assign articles for reading with questionable relevance that they wrote.
- Male Profs/TAs who are obviously more attentive to female students.
- Profs/TAs with illegible handwriting.
- Profs/TAs with super-heavy accents.
- Profs/TAs that spend so much time with each student that you wait for the whole set office hours and still not get a turn before the prof runs off.
- TAs that present material in totally different ways from the prof (like using different methods or different equations from the prof... one used the same thing but he used a different letter for one of the variables )
- TAs that write like they failed ESL.
- TAs that skip office hours when their own schedules get hectic.

- Students that had pagers/cell phones go off during lectures.
- Female students who wear ridiculous amounts of perfume.
- Students who eat lunch during lectures (one kid ate Chinese food once and stunk up the whole room).

- Classes after lunch in dark lecture halls
