professional sofa hoisting in Calgary?
Hi, I recently moved into an older apartment with a small elevator that cannot accommodate the size of my sofa. I heard of people hoisting up their sofas through their balconies and am wondering if there are any professional services in the Calgary area that do this. Please let me know if you know of any. Thanks

I'm not in the Calgary area, but my guess is that you might have to contact a moving company. They're one of the few places likely to have the right set-up for such a thing.

I would just go to a crane company.

Why don't you ask your neighbours what they did when they moved in or ask the superintendent? You probably need to get permission anyways.

Thanks for the responses; I especially liked the picture of the crane.
I did hire movers when I moved into the apt but the company I used did not offer hoisting and did not know of any other company that did. Before I moved into the apt I did note to the superintendent and the property manager that the elevator seemed a bit small and that I was concerned my sofa would not fit. They had assured me that there had not been an issue with the elevator size and moves for the last 20 years but if there was a problem we could contact the elevator company and have my sofa transported on the top of the elevator cab. It wasn't until after my move that they informed me that the cost of having my sofa put on the top of the sofa cab would cost $400 which is a bit much for me since I only plan of staying at this apt for 2-3 years. The superintendent made the comment that he thought my sofa wouldn't fit, especially since he had to hoist his own sofa to his unit - something he failed to mention until after my move.
Anyways, I'll keep looking into my options. Unfortunately I don't think I can sell the sofa now since it is wrapped in plastic and locked up in the building's storage room and any buyer would realize my situation and not give me a fair price for it.
