pro=can play backup/homebrew
con = i think less battery life, nothing drastic.

cons.. i'm not sure cause i don't know anybody who's flashed their ds, most of them have just gotten legit games or the R4 / M3

Cons: Most are STEALING. Even emulators are not public domain (Nintendo actually put in a patent for software emulation of their systems) and those games afaik have not expired yet. There are a few legit homebrew that are great such as the DSOrganize and the homebrew text browser with it. A few remote control stuff is cool too. But from what I can gather anecdotally, I'd say 95% of people with flash carts bought it to play pirated games either via emu or ds/gba roms.
