I've been trying to keep hope that I would get into playing my Gamecube, but alas I didn't enjoy any of the games I bought or rented. I tired of trying to defend the gamecube. It is clearly the weakest system of the three. And Xbox, in my mind, is undoubtably the best. Best preformance, functionality, and versatility, and the exclusive games, namely halo, are awsome.
I realize now that the only reason I ever got a gamecube was because my money was just burning a hole in my pocket. dumb. Now I've just gone back to playing all my games on the computer. Its simply better than any console.

Anyone have a list of all ps2 online games that connect through peer-to-peer??
peer-to-peer means the ps2 consoles connect to each other on the net without going thru a dedicated server.

Oct 16th, 2004 05:56 PM #48I'm in the same situation. The games I have gotten lately for Gamecube have really let me down.

Smash Bros Meele pretty much sucks. That let me down as the original on N64 I was really addicted to.
Metroid Prime I've just started playing. I wouldn't call it a let-down, but it is way over hyped. The controls are just too painful, and obsolete. Mouse look, and dual analog usage is just standard now adays. Having to hold a button to free look is just painful, and IMHO kills the promise of the game.
Mario Kart Double Dash is also really boring. Although I still have some hope for battle mode which I haven't tried. But what I've seen of the single player races is pretty bad. I've gone through the first 3 circuits, and can only come up with 1 track which I though was fun and original.
It's never a good sign when 4 seperate franchise games let you down that much.
If it wasn't for Mario Sunshine which I thought was great, and alot of fun I would have been really critical of the system as a whole.

I disagree. Viewtiful Joe is one of those unique experiences that doesn't come around too often; I would say it's under-hyped as it didn't sell too well... In fact, I was the only one to bring the game up.
It's all about taste and preferences. I thought Metroid Prime was great, as was Mario Kart. It's fun as a multiplayer game.
Still having fun with Donkey Konga, Castle of Shikigami II and Naruto..
As for Metroid, I don't know what you're talking about but the controls are great. They may take getting used to but the platforming element is flawless IMO.
With all that said I still think the PS2 brings the best variety of gaming together.

I wouldn't say the GameCube is the worse of the three systems. I agree that it depends on your taste in games. When I first got a GameCube, I bought it basically because it was cheap (the $80 GC deal). There was only one game I really wanted (Metal Gear Solid remake). However, I found myself buying more games and enjoying all of them (have 15 games now). Currently I would say I am interested in Nintendo games again (thought I would be a Playstation guy forever after the last gen
). Basically it all comes down to your own taste in games. I do not like first-person shooters nor the generic looking Western graphics style (high poly count and high res texture is not the only things needed to make a game look good
) that are used in most of the popular Xbox or PC games, so I will stick with a PS2 and GC for all my gaming needs.

I agree. Raw power isn't a necessity in having a great looking game. ICO, Wanda and Okami beg to differ.
(I personally think Zelda cell-shaded looks nice).

Oct 17th, 2004 12:43 AM #53Yeah, I didn't think they were that bad. The lack of a constant look is annoying to me, but not critical. The game itself is still pretty good. It's just the odd time if you're walking down a sloping hallway or something when you have to keep stopping to manually look downhill that it gets annoying.

Man, you guys aren't helping me with what console to buy! Differing opinions on everything, even on individual games for the systems...
Wish I had a magic 8-ball that would tell me what to get...

Just get all 3 and you won't have to worry about missing out on anything.

But it's really kind of hard to suggest what system would be better for someone, as each system offers different things.
But all 3 are good systems, so you don't really lose any way you choose.

And it's just so damn cheap, for both hardware and quality games.
Xbox costs more, but I think is technologically a bit more advanced (I'm sure my X1 projector would love it!), has some great online play opportunity so I could play with some of the friends who have moved hours away from me (or even across the country). It's capabilities modded, as a media centre, are also pretty promising.
I still haven't played through all the games I have for PC and Dreamcast, though. I'd like to wait and finish them, but that'll never happen. If I wait, though, prices are only dropping... I'm on the fence in all senses._______________

"Lugging around" isn't a term you really have to use for the gamecube. the system is very tiny. It was designed to be easilly portable.
It's pretty much the exact opposite of the Xbox which is huge and heavy.
Oh, and I almost forgot. Best thing about gamecube are the wavebird controllers. They're wireless, and don't inhale batteries like most wireless devices. Once you try on of these you'll never use another wired controller. Probably the best controller I've ever had.
I have 2 of them so far, and they just sit on top of my TV. Just pick one up, flip the switch on, turn on the system and away I go.
Of course to get to the TV I have to wade through the tangled mess which is my xbox controllers.

Oct 17th, 2004 10:24 PM #59I hear ya on Ninja Gaiden...the two games I bought my xbox for turned out to be huge letdowns (NG and Knights of the Old). NG camera was atrocious, and the developer (Tecmo) chalked it up to "challenge" and spoke of how NG was only for true expert gamers. Way to cover up your sh*tty camera design. Hehehe good thing Riddick came out to relieve my boredom.

Exactly what I was thinking Vonteego.
What really confuses me is how people review Ninja Gaiden. Out of all the reviews I've read I can't think of one case where someone slammed the camera angles. at most they'll say the camera has "minor" issues. This just proves that most review sites are just out to kiss the developer's ass. The fact that they just ignore a glaring flaw in a game simplay because of they hype over the game.
I really tried to get into it, as the action was pretty cool. But I just couldn't handle the camera constantly being glued to my cheast. Makes some bosses nearly impossible to beat.
I'd go as far as to say that Ninja Gaiden had the worst camera of any game I've played. Making it unplayable as far as I'm concerned.
