I love F1, Rally and CART etc...
Get an Xbox and buy:
Project Gotham Racing 2
Rallisport Challenge 2
F1 2001
Get an MC2 Madcatz wheel and get Xbox Live.
Enough said.
I know GT4 will be amazing but Xbox just has sooooo many good racing games, these are just a few.

PS2 or XBOX for racing simulations?
I'm a big fan of racing simulations on the PC, not really arcade style games, other than a few. I'm a big fan of Formula1, CART & Rally. I also love the demo for Need for Speed Underground 2.
I'm considering getting a game console. Either PS2 or XBOX but don't know which one would be best.
I want the system that offers the best selection of racing simulations, and also the one that will allow me to plug in my Logitech MOMO Force racing wheel.
I know very little about game consoles. Any recommendations based on my need would be appreciated.

Not sure about selection, but the Gran Turismo games for the PS2 is probably the best simulation type racing game on any console. Gran Turismo 4 will be coming out early next year.

EDIT: when I read this thread there was no replies, after I post there is 2. You people are fast.

Can't really go wrong eithe way. Both systems have quite a few really good racing games.
It'd pretty much come down to wether you like the looks better between Project Gotham Racing2 for Xbox, or Gran Turismo for the PS2.
Personally I liked PGR2 better. But that's more to do with that GT was too techical for me. I always ended up screwing up my car and killing the handling through upgrades.
I prefer a bit more arcadish style of racing games over pure simulations.

Buy and Xbox and Toca Race Driver 2. Its made by Codemasters and they are well known in the gaming world for putting out good racing sims. I have it and its friggen awesome.

If you want a REALISTIC simulator buy an Xbox and go get a copy of Pro Race Driver. I am very picky about my racing games and this one feels the best! I still have to go get Toca Race Driver 2, which is basically the sequel which has more types of racing. I can't wait.
I'll be getting a PS2 in a couple days, so I'll be able to rate both machines then. Either way, I have not played GT3. Only GT2 and I did not like it besides the fact that it had a lot of cars.

I think RalliSport Challenge 2 ( Xbox ) is a pretty good racing simulation, good graphics, good physics and several spiffy modes of play, like Ice Racing and Hill Climb.
Personally, I'd say if you want the most FUNCTION out of your system, along with some excellent games, get yourself an Xbox.

People are forgetting about Forza Motosports.
Google for it, it's a Microsoft 1st party racing game made specificially to compete with GT4. It won't have as many cars or tracks but it will support online.
As for using the MOMO, I doubt the Xbox will support it but the PS2 supposedly does (you won't get the full range of steering though)._______________
From a "Family" reviewer: "We Cheer teaches coordination, enticement to lust, women being used as sex objects, and team work."
From Worthy Playing: "We Cheer is, then, for all intents and purposes, the F-Zero GX of music games. It asks for so much, yet forgives so little. It is actually so casual that it's hardcore."

As old as it may be, Sega GT 2002 is still a good game to check out as well.

Nov 10th, 2004 09:51 AM #13Yep, Forza is going to kill GT4. Online, actual car damage, engine swaps, REAL race cars not just *** tuners, full exterior modification, the list goes on. I'm really looking forward to it and hoping it'll be as good as they say it'll be! Because if it stinks it up, I'll be forced to buy a PS2.

GT4 will be cool but for me the reigning champion is Project Gotham 2. The cars are great and there are so many of them. The tracks are great, scenery is amazing. Best part is xbox live to race with friends!
PGR is still the most played game on my xbox. I hope they release PGR3 with the new xbox whenever it comes out!

No online play really takes the wind out of its sail though.
