You'd think Sony could think up a more original name other than PSP 2 or PSP lite.
To provide some input, I'd wait. It will probably be significantly worth the wait. The DS Lite is a good example.

PSP 2/lite??
This is a thread to talk about the psp 2/ psp lite... I was going to buy a psp but now looking at how different the two are said to be by rumors.. i think i would wait for the psp 2... If you know anything about this new psp lite/2 just put it in this post for all to see and Many people are probably also wondering about the release date and price.

You guys are speaking as if the PSP 2 is already confirmed. Some UK executive does not count.

And why does he not count? O_o Unless Sony gave up on handhelds already, there will be a successor to the PSP. Although at this point in time, it's more likely there's a PSP re-design. I don't know why considering the PSP already looks nice. It's just lacking in the games department.

My sources tell me that no decision has been made about the PSP yet. Although a newer version (PSP2) and a slimmed down version WITHOUT UMD SUPPORT (PSP Lite) are being considered as potential options. In the even of a PSP Lite, a UMD converter would be offered for existing software. Future software would probably be distributed on memory stick.

That's what we call damage control. There's no way they don't have a second PSP in the works. Nintendo almost certainly has the successor to the DS in the works. Work on a console starts almost as soon as the previous console is released. PSP 2 in 2009 or 2010 I'd say. 2008 if Sony wants to get this generation over with and try to start anew.

Sigh, its been known a long time that Sony is in fact developing another PSP, but the thing is that they are also coming up with ideas for the PS4 and Green Ray or whatever the next media format is based on.
However, at the moment they do not even have a prototype of what the PSP2 is going to be. Sony has again and again denied it will be released anytime soon. They are known to quiet rumours if they are indeed holding some truth like the @Home thing. Its safe to think that if you want a PSP now holding back for the PSP2 would be a stupid idea._______________

Who thought they would actually call it a psp lite? That was just all the nintendo fan boys photoshopping the ds lite pics into dark psp lookalikes.

well according to what some of you said the psp second version wont even be coming out this year.. if tahts the case i will buy a psp now... the only thing is i will have to buy a 4gb card as well and according to some people the new psp will have 8gb built in mermory and not even use umd format... MAybe i could just sell my psp when the psp lite comes out... but then i might only get around $100 for it ... thats why i was thinking about waiting

If you believe what the UK Sony guy was saying, he already stated that the UMD format stays. Knowing Sony, I believe this is going to be the case as well. The built in memory is unlikely or possibly inaccessible by drag and drop formats as they want to push their memory card format which now goes up to 8GB.
