Need some help deciding between these 2 PSU's. For my current planned rig, both are overkill (3570k, single gtx 670, low OC, 8GB ram, an ssd and an hdd) but I want a psu that I can use without worry in the future in the event of an upgrade (probably another GTX 670). I know 860 w supports sli 670's, but I don't want a high load on the PSU as I heard that can affect performance and PSU lifespan
Main difference between the two
X-1050:
- 1050 watts
- 80+ Gold
- 5 year warranty
- $10 cheaper than the 860
Platinum 860
- 860 watts
- 80+ platinum
- 7 year warranty
Any input is appreciated!

Both are outstanding PSU but honestly I think the X-1050 is gross overkill for your system. Even the 860 is. I'd got with the higher-efficiency model.

Is there any disadvantages for going for a kilowatt psu? Also, how big of a difference is 80+ gold and platinum? I'm not a hardcore enthusiast demanding the absolute best for his system, so I don't have a problem settling for gold, unless Plat is found to be vastly superior. The only reason I am still debating is because of the warranty, and a fear that 860W might not be enough for a worry free future system. I know 860w is probably adequate for future systems, but I will still have to check just to make sure, if I want to add some new components that consumes lots of power. I'm lazy, and I don't want to do that

The plat is really sexy though..why couldn't it have been at least 900w? The 1k plat is out of my price range unfortunately..

I have 670 sli check my spec
At full load my system only pulls like 435~
Gpu die is getting smaller less power needed
1k is over kill 850 is wayyyy more than enough
If you want to quad or tri sli you could think about 850_______________

Corsair HX-850 is also a very good power supply.

Hmm, do you overclock your system all? Also, I've read that the smaller the load on a PSU the longer it lasts, which is why I was thinking the 1050 even though I know it's overkill
Sigh. I am sure it is, but as I already mentioned I am ONLY picking these two. there are plenty of non/semi-modular PSU's from a variety of other brands that are better value for the performance, etc etc, I KNOW. All I want is opinions on which of the that I listed should be going to my new rig.
Also, your URL is broken because you added a space.

uhhh is more than enough
I OC my CPU to 4.0, my GPUs run fine
I have like 8 harddrives, 2 ssd, 1 soundcard, 1 raid card, 8 fans
I even have all 8 of those harddrives running off one cable from PSU with 2Xsilverstone 1 to 4 sata power
you dont need a 1k PSU save the move on something else
also platinum is only 2% more, the premium price, not sure if its worth it :/Last edited by balance; Jun 23rd, 2012 at 10:47 PM.

Man, I still can't decide between the 2...should I just go "screw it", and splurge on the XP-1000? Pricier, yes, but then, they are all pricey, and the xp-1000 has the warranty and wattage to ensure that it can run anything I can afford to throw at it.
