Public Mobile is selling SIM cards at WOW kiosks now. Maybe this is part of a slow transition to the normal carrier model with bricks and mortar stores, call centres, etc. Perhaps the experiment is over.

I wonder if they will actually throttle 3G speeds to a max of 2.5mbps. I turned off lte while on publicmobile and my speeds averaged 5mbps hotting 7 Mbps in the start. Which isn't that bad really.

Yes, the new plans come with throttled data, no need to wonder about it. It is all explained on their website.

and here was me thinking that PM was a bold new direction for Canadian phone users. Oh well. I think Telus has had enough of the cannibalism from Koodo.

They positioned PM to compete more with chatr. Even their plans are similar now.

Ex Koodo customer. Beware of their tactics.

At least ChatR offers "unlimited" data plans for the same price.

That's true. Although chatr so called unlimited plan just means a 64kb/s network after cap LOL.

I just tried Speedtest without LTE and actually got 17.5Mbps. PM is saying 'up to' 2.5Mbps, so for sure, they're throttling.

17Mpbs on 3G I'd jump for that deal because you can get 6GB a month rather than 4GB...however, 2.5Mbps is useless, especially with the "up to".

nice, i live in a pretty bad signal area. i would guess my speeds would be better elsewhere. not sure what pisses me off more, the new 3g speed plan is more expensive then the old 38$ plan or the fact they will throttle shitty 3g speeds.

They're getting greedy. I'll be bailing if they raise my prices though.

That said, I've been fairly active with their "community' and earned $4 for June, so a true RFD'er here...lol.

I gotta wonder what prompted the complete 180 from amazing promotion just last week to 50% price hike this week. Maybe the promotion wasn't meant to be a stress test after all, unlike what we'd been thinking...

I have a suspended plan ($120 for 12GB/unlimited talk for 90 days) but within the 90 days before expiration - but the plan shows "Expired" and I can't renew. Thanks Telus, you sure told us.
The sad state of all business in Canada (telecom cartels included) is the Telus/Koodo abusive attitude is actually the best of mobile offerings in the country.

It was probably just greed. They knew they can charge more. Either that, or they're wanting to move people to koodo. I'll have a hard time recommending PM now that the prices are like this.
