Buy it now.
If you wait something new will be out and you'll want that and wait again... then something newer will be out and you'll want that and wait even longer. Gotta' stop the cycle sometime.

Purchase E8400 now or mid-May?
I want me rig to be completed by mid-May. I see the E8400 (OEM) in stock again for $210.
Should I grab it now or do you guys think by mid-May (~1.5 months) they'll be cheaper and in stock.
The last thing I want is having trouble finding them in stock. Thanks._______________Can you feel the heat.... http://www.heatware.com/eval.php?id=41746

Thanks fellas, I looked at the E6850 prices and you're right. I'll grab it tomorrow and give myself peace of mind.

The upcoming price cuts are mainly on the older 65nm chips.
Take a look at my thread here ... http://www.redflagdeals.com/forums/s...highlight=45nm
If everything goes as Intel's plan, you will a huge jump in supply of 45nm C2D in the coming months (Q3).

I would wait 2 months, but that's me.
I'd recommend waiting until this Wednesday and seeing if NCIX has a special on the E8400. If they do then you saved a bit, if not you can still buy it.
I find that technology pretty much always goes down in price though; even if these chips are hard to find, another similar cpu will be cheaper by then._______________

Yup ... Everyone is paying a premium for E8400 (as well as the Xeon counterpart) now coz there's very little other choices. We will only see more and more 45nm chips .... Not the other way around. 45nm chips will still be priced higher than the 65nm chips but the premium will disappear as the supply of 45nm parts increase.

Even though the price at retail stores will not go down (at least not much) the price on RFD will slowly go down unless there are big supply issues.

i just bought one at NCIX and although I know I probably could have gotten it for $10-$15 cheaper had I waited, I'm glad I didn't wait...
this thing is an overclocking beast... out of the box I just upped the FSB to 400mhz, didn't touch any other settings, and it was stable and temps staying around 40 degrees.... a couple bios tweaks later I'm running 4005 mhz stable and load temps hovering around 50 degrees.... I've only upped the voltage to 1.26 so I'm pretty sure I could squeeze a bit more out of this cpu.
