I know.....another Q6600 thread.
Anyway is the Q6600 for $249.99 from NCIX worth the extra $75 over the
E6750 for $174.99?
From what I read the Q6600 has a 5% performance advantage at stock speeds and about 8% when both are overclocked 25%. I also have read this will continue to grow as more apllications support 4 cores.
Is all this hype true or is this $75 better spent on another component?
Thanks

Well it really depends on what your going to do with he computer. If you do a lot of Multitasking (lots of programs open doing everything at once etc) Then the Quad core would be better for you. Also if your looking for this computer to last for years quad will be better since future software will support quad core.
I see no reason to not go quad with its current price.

Now the Q6600 is up to $264.99 so it is $90 more plus tax and insurance = $97 more.
Not as appealling anymore.

A Q6600 is not worth it for most people. I think of myself as a pretty sophistocated user, and only a couple of my programs were faster using a quad over a duo, most of them were actually slower due to the lower clock speed. I don't use any pro apps though - mostly free stuff cuz I'm cheap.
The multitasking is pretty amazing though - you can play a game and encode a video at the same time without a hiccup. But unless you plan on doing that often or if you know for sure some of your programs can take advantage of the extra cores, it's a huge waste of money, IMO. A faster Core 2 Duo is usually better (E6750/E6850).

If you want to use this computer for 3+ years, I would invest the extra money and get a quad core. The future of computing is headed towards quad core and most new games use all four cores.

Thanks for the advice. I don't play any games so I think I should just go
E6750 and save the $100.
