Quality of Boss/Zegna suits?
Hi
I was wondering if anyone has any insight into the general quality of Hugo Boss and Zegna suits (I saw them at Harry Rosen and Holt Renfrew). I was looking today and comparing them to some Armani and Canali suits which were around twice the price ($1000 vs. $2000). While $1000 is a more reasonable budget, I'm wondering about the quality of Boss and Zegna (doesn't have to be in comparison to Armany/Canali, but just in general)...is it worth the $1000?
Thanks!

True in most cases.
But -1 for 'Zegna Z' line, which is Boss-like. These are the same suits that the sportsnet guys wear.
There are also some older Boss suits out there that deserves a +1.

What makes the boss suits bad? I was checking them out the other day and the feel of the fabric IMO was pretty good, didn't really pay attention to the stitching or whatever though.

The Boss suits at Harry Rosen are considered to be the 'lowest end' of the store's collection. I did buy a Boss suit from them though given my budget, and I am happy with it. No complaints at all.

Boss is made in Turkey, and I believe the stitching is actually gluing. However, in fit, both should be excellent and come down to you trying several suits on and picking the one that you like and fits you the best.
Brioni suits are >$4000, which is not what the op wants.

It's not that Boss is bad, it's that I don't think it's worth the price. I bought a suit from HongKong for about half the price, and to me the fit and material is better.
Whatever floats your boat, right?

My Boss suit is made in Germany according to its' tag, and it looks like its stitched to me (though admittedly I'm not entirely sure what to look for with that). My cheaper made in Hong Kong Calvin Klein suit fits me better though.

I think Boss suits are an excellent bang for the buck - especially the Red or Black label. They fit well and require very little alterations aside from hemming the pants - it's almost like they've figured out the proper proportions of North American men. Just my experience from being a customer and also selling these suits. I have a Black Label HB suit that is 10yrs old and it looks like it's brand new and I get plenty of complements when wearing it. Remember buying the suit is a fraction of the battle - get matching quality shoes and shirts or you'll look like an idiot who spent all his $ on the suit and had nothing left over for the rest of his outfit. Find a good dry cleaner to clean it too - a top flight cleaner will charge around $45.

I found a nice Zegna that I'll probably end up getting
Too bad it's not on sale like all the other Zegna suits I saw

BTW, does anyone know where Zegna suits are usually made? I couldn't find it on any of the labels
I saw a nice Boss suit as well that was the same price...was made in Slovenia.
I figure if I'm gonna throw down a chunk of change, I'd prefer a more developed country

Well the country of manufacture doesn't have to correlate with the quality. It's just the fact that less developed countries tend to have less strigent manufacturing processes that make them so cheap to produce in.
Anyways, don't just judge it by the country it's made in.

I got a Zegna suit from Harry Rosen today......instantly fell in love with it, but it was pretty much the only one that wasn't 30% off (go figure
)
Thanks to everyone for the help!
