I live in Mtl, but why exacly you want a QC plate? Just because Quebec does not require a front license plate....: so you only want a back plate and what it will change for you to only have a back plate on your car..i'm just curious!confused:

Quebec plate if I live in Ontario
Hi,
I currently live in Ontario, and therefore have an Ontario plate on my car. For certain reasons, including the fact that Quebec does not require a front license plate, I would like to get a Quebec license plate.
Is this possible if I reside in Ontario?? What exactly is the process?
One of my good friends resides in Montreal, could he do it for me?
Thanks!!

Exactly, you cannot insure a car in Ontario with a Quebec plate.
If you live in QC and moved to Ontario, you have to change your insurance to Ontario within 60 days, that was written on my Belair insurance policy.
If I didn't change it and anything happen, I risk to get my insurance void._______________

There are a number of people who live in Gatineau who prefer to have their cars plated in Ontario. While insurance is cheaper in Quebec, registration is more expensive - most call it a wash but YMMV.
At the end of the day, you'll need a Quebec address to plate your car there. This is not a scheme that is worthwhile.

I've usually been asked this question by people who have outstanding 407 bills and can't get a plate issued in Ontario. Not saying that this is your situation but just as a note. They think if they go to PQ, get a fake address there (or get their buddies who live there to do it), and get a PQ plate that it will just solve their problem and they can drive in Ontario without issues. Truth is you can't. You may be able to get away with it temporarily but not forever. If you reside in Ontario, you must have your vehicle and plate registered here.

plates in qc cost $260 per year. you sure you want to get your plates in qc? We can half of yours (1 instead of 2) and pay more than double.

maybe you can "borrow" your friend's Address in Montreal and Change your License to Quebec then register your car in Quebec w/Quebec plates and then drive safely in Ontario.

Registration in Quebec costs more because any injury to the driver/passengers are covered by the government. The registration fee covers that.
It is the insurance that covers this kind of claims in Ontario, which explains lower registration fees but higher insurance rates.

You are risking your self, if anything happen. The adjuster will give you hard time and even refuse your claim and cancel your policy due to fraud and that record stay in your file.
I have my family and friend in Montreal, I could do it if I wanted to and pay only 50% of what i'm paying now in Ontario, but I won't risk my insurance for that._______________

Here's another thought.... anyone care to shed any insights on this?
What if you were to use the Quebec address of a friend or family member to register your car? What would stop the Quebec Ministry of Finance to one day ask why you haven't filed Quebec income tax returns, since your registered address is in Quebec?_______________

Another thought, you car got stolen at work's parking. You claim insurance and but the police report said the car was stolen in Ontario at your office (you go work there everyday) and the resdient address you put is in Montreal. How do you explain that? You drive back and forward from ON to QC everyday??? (let's say you live in Toronto, not 5 min away from QC)
