Question about license change from Alberta to Ontario

I got my g2 license in ontario about 6 years ago, then joined the army and was in alberta and did my test there and got my class 5 license. Now i'm out and back in Ontario. Just wanted to find out what the process is (if any) when i go to the ministry of transportation to change back to my ontario license. Will they give me the equal g license to the current class 5? Hope someone can let me know.

Your best bet is to call the MTO.

my wife had to do this two years ago, and as far as i remember all you have to do is go to the ministry office and pay the appropriate fees and they will switch it over for you

Was surprised to hear about the fee. Its free to go from a Ontario license to a BC license. The Prov. of Ontario seems to charge for everything, and twice as much.

yeah, i paid 52 bucks for renewing my license. did anyone pay that as well? i was so surprised when the mail came.

If your current ALTA licence doesn't state when you first received it, you may need to order a Driver Abstract. Just to show your driving history and that you are eligible for the full Class-5.

If you've held your licence (and it has been valid) for 24 months or longer, you will be entitled to a full Ontario G licence. Go to your nearest DriveTest Centre for the exchange and bring the appropriate identification. The fee for the exchange is $75.

I'm not sure what a Class 5 licence is, but if you've had your Alberta licence for at least two years, you're given a full G licence. It sounds like you'll meet this criteria.

I was in Alberta for a summer several years ago and was able to get my driver's licence out there (before they had graduated licensing...not sure if they do in Alberta yet). But I came back to Ontario after only 4 months and was given a G2 licence instead. Unfortunately I needed to drive for work, otherwise I would've just held on to my Alberta licence until the 2-year period and then switched it. Would have saved me a driving test and lots of cash

yup. in upper canada all they require is an eye test.

yes, driver's licence, i renewed it one month ago.
well, it's my first renewal, i thought everybody pays!

I did that yesterday and they took $75 to exchange my saskatchewan CLASS C license. Although I had the previous ON license and it was still valid in the system but still they took $75. They just rip off for any opportunity..plus 40 min in 'Q'
