Question on Canadian Custom duties on electronic items

My aunt just told me that no custom duties are slapped on electronic items bought in the US. Is this true? I've bought some notebooks on [rfdlink=63]ebay[/rfdlink] in 2004 and 2005 and was asked to pay custom duties.

I couldn't make it out on this 1,700+ page custom tariff manual.

Thanks.

No duties on electronics made in the USA that are bought in the USA. But you still need to pay taxes and any applicable brokerage.

You will find that if you are importing things youself you will hardly pay duty on anything at all except clothing.

You always have to pay taxes though.
