quick question about ssd
i've heard a lot of things about the ssd and how it is a lot faster. my question is would a dual-core cpu and the ssd be faster than a quad-core and a regular hdd?
i'm going for a new build so this would help my decision.

Hmmmmm
Yes....Alot.
The beauty of the ssd lies in two things, disk access times and random reads and writes at the 4-8kb level. In these two aspects alone, there isn't a hard drive available that comes anywhere close.
The veloci 4k random read is 0.4b/s in comparison to 15.52mb/s for the Intel ssd. That is 38 times as fast for the most commonm form of drive acess in the read.
The veloci 4k random write is 2.9mb/s compared to the Intel at 27.85. That is roughly 10 times as fast.
Now, disk access is the bread and butter here because that is the amount of time it takes to retrive a piece of information. For the Intel, it is -.1ms whereeas the raptor is 6.9 ms. When you are talking large file transfers, this means minutes of difference but, more importantly, yu need to consider the regulkar operation of the system.
Everything is almost instantaneous with the ssd.

thank you for that.
how does it affect gaming and regular usage? i don't regularly transfer large files, but i imagine opening programs would be more snappy.

Hmmm....
With gaming pages load much faster and with respect to everyday use, it feels like the computer knows what command you are about to execute before you hit the button.
Moving from HD to ssd, most are caught off guard...
Quicker start times
no hd noise
less fan use
longer battery life
better performance...and on...
