Ram 1500 Sport vs F-150 Fx4 crew

Hello all,

Looking for feedback on the above models and not starting some flame war. The pickup would not be a work truck, and my wife has a company vehicle so I am not really worried about fuel consumption (I know, must be nice). I presently drive a Flex Ecoboost. I have driven the F-150 and about to go out and look at the Ram. NOT interested in the Chev (father in-law is a GM guy…). He owns a '14 Silverado and I like the Ram and Ford much better.
Anyway, any feedback would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

2015 F150 is aluminum...probably will be costly to repair any future body damage. Pretty wide price range on features and such. Ram 1500 4x4 start at around $25K and up. I am sure that one could spend $40-$50K on a F150 easily.

Towing a trailer makes a big difference too.

I am happy with my 2010 Ford Ranger 4x4.

I had a 2010 RAM Sport Crew Cab in mineral grey for 4 years. AMAZING truck, beautiful inside, beautiful outside, best ride of any pickup (rear coil suspension), the HEMI was an awesome engine with the 5/6 speed tranny. I am sure it a total beast with the new ZF 8spd.

In 4 years I never had a single issue of any kind beyond regular oil changes. I miss it every day, but since I moved into town, I just don't need a pickup any more.

Once you drive the RAM, you won't want anything else.

Reason why F150 has been Canada's top selling vehicle for almost 50 years it's because you get a lot of vehicle for the money. Trucks are really cheap for what you get. You just have to know when to shop. When I was looking at them a fully loaded FX4 Ecoboost crew cab was around 44 grand. XLT trim was around 35-37k. MSRP of the FX4 I looked at was 59K and they discounted it down to 44K.

That is the going price (MSRP that is) for a high trim 1/2 ton truck before discounts. There are always discounts on trucks these days. Has been like this for 15 years. My 2002 Sierra SLT sticker price was $54k. This is nothing new.

To me, a truck has more value than a $50k sedan. What do you think should cost $50k??

I bought an F150 in 2010.

Back then, it was between the Ram and F150 for me. Had a chance to drive the Ram for about a week for a rental and test drove both a number of times. Ford was for me hands down.

Ride, noise, build quality - everything pointed at the Ford. Having said that maybe the Ram has come a long way since then, but theres a reason the F150 is the best selling truck in Canada for about 50 years in a row.

I used to drive a Colorado then went to a Sierra. Ford is much better for towing.

The 2015 is the wildcard. I cant see the aluminum body doing anything other than increasing gas mileage and hurting virtually every other aspect of the truck especially towing. If I was worried at all about mileage I wouldnt have bought a truck.

Never know I may buy a 2015+ someday but it wont be until they are a few model years in.

Gas mileage on the 2015 F150 will be lower than 2014...vehicle is a lot lighter due to the lighter metal....770 pounds lighter. http://www.usatoday.com/story/money/col ... /16617277/

If you add the combined sales of the GMC/Chevy trucks, they are not that much different from the F150 sale numbers...typically speaking.

3 weeks ago I got Ram 1500 Big Horn Crew cab ecodiesel and love it. Very comforable, quiet, roomy and of course fuel efficient. I had a look at F150 and was not impressed with the finish. Ram finish and quality was a lot better.

You might as well keep it in the Ford family. Unless you go to the ecodiesel Ram, the Ford ecoboost or 5.0 get about the same mileage as the Hemi. My wife gets 10l/100km on the highway in her 5.0 F150 Lariat, better than my 11l/100km ecoboost Flex Titanium. Hemi on average is around 14l/100km all around driving.

I could get around 9l/100km on my 8 speed Hemi if I was on a road where the speed limit was 80 (which is the route I take to work). It would jump to around 10 or 11 if I was on the 401 and did 120 km/hr or less. City driving was obviously much worse.

You guys are so focused on price you're blinded by it.

The Ram is a literal joke when comparing the overall quality.

This guy sounds like me describing the post-2000 Honda Motor Company.

lol sounds like you're the one blinded by all the extra dollar signs from your Ford. As someone who used to work on these trucks everyday, It'll be a cold day in hell before I ever own a Ford. In fact I should be putting in my order soon for a 2015 Laramie.

Fords are okay. Just not up to RAM's standards these day. GM / Chevrolet are a distant 3rd. Nissan and Toyota don't make real trucks. Don't even waste time looking at them.

The '14 Ford F150's are a steal right now/ They're giving them away with the arrival of the 2015.

At Erinwood Ford, right off the top, they're offering discounts of $16000.00.
