I'm looking to upgrade the RAM on several of my PCs. They are Acer Veriton 7500.
From a quick scan on crucial.com I was told that I currently have 1 slot with 256MB (I know, pathetic) and the other slot is empty.
Here are where my questions come in:
First, it says that my system P4 1.8 GHz will recognize a max of 2GB of RAM, so I'm looking to get 2 x1GB stick obviously.
The website gives me this option for 127.99 if I want to purchase 2 sticks of:
CT297912 DDR PC2700 • CL=2.5 • Unbuffered • NON-ECC • DDR333 • 2.5V • 128Meg x 64
If I spend more I can get (about double the price):
CT414861 DDR PC4000 • 3-4-4-8 • Unbuffered • NON-ECC • DDR500 • 2.8V • 128Meg x 64
Is this difference worth getting the PC4000? Furthermore, once I've decided exactly which I should get, is there somewhere I could likely find this much cheaper?

You should probably be getting PC3200, though without knowing the specifics of your system is hard to tell. I can tell you for sure that PC4000 won't help you at all. PC3200/PC2700 were the standards back when P4 1.8Ghz were out.
Infonec has a 2GB kit for $129 - Link
You don't need to worry about the timings, with at system that old you'll never notice the difference anyway, in the end get the cheapest ram you can find. I'd check the for-sale threads to see if anyone is selling some instead of buying it new._______________

Which motherboard you're running would help a bit ... again the difference between PC2700 and PC3200 isn't that great either.. but PC4000 is out of spec and requires overclocking the board to get the full potential out of that speed of ram. PC3200 should be your target personally ...

Wow thats and oldy :P
PC2700 should be more than enough by the age of that system. I would look for used ram, it be a waste buy new ram for such an old system. You might even consider an upgrade to a new system at this point

I've got about 10 of them in an office....thus cost is an issue to buy all new PCs at once. Since we only use the computers for email, word processing, etc. we don't need extremely fast processors or excellent video cards, but I figured the RAM would help with the lag we get multitasking, especially considering some PCs have 128MB or 256MB.
Thoughts?

10 ... I guess if you only using them for office work then ya upgrade makes more sense though I mean soon you're going to have to upgrade. For the short term adding ram to all the systems seems the most cost effective until you can afford a full system replacement. I'd aim for 1gb - 1.5gb .. 2gb seems kind of overkill, unless you can find the ram really cheap.

No motherboard with a P4 1.8 installed will allow you to run the RAM at DDR500 - it won't even let you run at DDR400. So if you feel like wasting some money, go for it.
