Yeah, I find my Purolator packages tend to go on joyrides too. I live in an apartment, but my name isn't listed in the lobby since the lease isn't under my own name. Under my apartment number, I always list Buzzer #xxxx. Yet for some reason, for 3 days every time, Purolator gives me the run around saying that my address needs correction, no such buzzer number exists or that my buzzer number isn't on the package (when it is). They seem to assume that because no one picks up, the buzzer number is wrong, and they never leave a delivery notification.

[Rant] Purolator sucks
So my item from Dell shipped on Friday and it was expected to arrive on Monday.
The status on Monday changed to "On vehicle for delivery" so naturally I was expecting the package to arrive on Monday...Nobody shows up, no doorbell nothing.
So I called Purolator at 5 and they say the driver might be late etc, so I wait a little longer...still nothing
Ok the next day, Tuesday...the same crap happens..in the morning the status changed to "On vehicle for delivery" but noone shows up again...wtf
Here are the details of the tracking.

2007/04/16 07:40 On vehicle for delivery
What are they doing with my package? Taking it for a joyride?
They should really change their name to PuroLATER cause they really delay your deliveries like mad. I've had no problems with them prior, same goes with the other couriers.
BTW, that attempted delivery is BS, even though it says 8pm._______________

This is unfortunate, especially when you're expecting something and it seems to be stuck in the twilight zone. It might be time to pick up the phone and have Dell straighten Purolator out. In the end, it's Dell that will lose a customer from this ordeal. It's called having good customer relationship management. If they want your business in the future, they will offer you some sort of appeasement.

ive had many problems with purolator before
their customer service sucks. there is no communication within the company. their policies are ********. my favourite excuse by them for not knocking or ringing my doorbell is "it is up to the drivers descretion whether he chooses to knock on the door or ring the doorbell and he may choose not do either." i ask why and i get "there may be sleeping children inside."
i had to compain after months of having to pick up items at the shipping depot and they fully said it was my fault for not answering the door. i said i wanted to file a complain and they kept on asking "why? you were probably in the washroom or somewhere else and didnt hear the driver" and gave me other excuses. then they started asking me questions like "if the drive walks to your door to put the slip in the mailbox, why didnt he bring the package to the door?" im the one asking the same thing. then they give the "theres nothing i can do about it"
they made it out as if i wanted something out of it. all i wanted was my packages delivered to my door as promised.
i had to escalate the complaint to the head office line and they gave me the same crap lines and blamed it on me. ive rescheduled deliveries only to have them do it again and again. i ended up writing to head office and they got someone to call me back with a personal phone number to call if i have any problems. i havent had any problems since but then again rarely use purolator anymore. i wish dell would stop using them.
oh and in january they lost my $250 package that i ordered from NHL.com. it was full sized hockey pads and a bunch of other gear so the box must have been HUGE. NHL.com are *******s but thats another story

I found Puralator likes to come bright and early and it seems 90% of the time, I miss the delivery. Lucky for me however, I live 5min from the shipping depot, so it's really easy for me to pick it up

I HATE Purolator. They almost NEVER ring the door bell.. and I schedule a redelivery.. and they don't show!
I highly recommend calling and complaining.. escalating if necessary. I ended up having them deliver on a Saturday (usually costs $$ extra) because they fcuked up._______________
So long. I'm outta here.

same **** happen here, ordered ram from directcanada on friday, yesterday it said the item is on the vehicle for delivery, waited till 9pm and called Purolator to see wtf is going on, they tell me their truck broke so they had to switch them, so driver is running late on deliveries. Finally the package just came in today at 1pm.
They should offer us free shipping for making me wait so long lol._______________

I have problems with all the shipping companies. It's what they do. They have good days, they have bad days.
Just recently, I had a bad day with FedEx when they just broke a plaque and frame I was having shipped to me ... big issues, right in the middle of it right now actually. Big piss off._______________

The problem with Purolator is living in an apt./condo. They will not leave notices at apt./condos. I have had several phone messages from Purlotor guys saying they're there, not giving me any waybill information (for some of the items, I didn't have a tracking number).
When I call into Purolator to ask about the package, they say they can't do anything about the package without a tracking number. Address is not enough. Uh, your guy didn't leave any notice with a tracking number. Well, too bad... we can't leave it in an apt, even if they can get to the door, because it's an "insecure" location (but leaving it on the front door of a house, where anyone could just take it as well is fine, and I thought that's what you had to present ID for) . . .
So, I have a package, no tracking #, and a driver that always comes between 9-5, when I'm at work. Great. So, I have to spend 30 minutes each time this happens explaining how stupid their policy is, and then another 30 minutes giving them all of the information I have (I don't know what company actually shipped the item, esp. if it's a warranty replacement by a third party distributor) in order to try and find the tracking number.
One of my packages went through this 5 times before finally getting sent back. I had lost my patience with PL by then.

Dell is one of Purolator's bigger accounts. I don't think you can even specify shipping option when you order through Dell.
If you do send goods through them, one word of advice is to package it well (forklift resistant
- yes I 've seen some freight get ran over before) as things gets tossed all the time, and make sure you have a separate side of the box with the to and from addresses labelled legibly and have clear tape over it 'cause if it gets wet and unreadable say goodbye to your freight.
All I gotta say is I'm glad I didn't work the phones or up in retail when I did work there, otherwise I'd have to be dealing with hordes of angry RFDers
Apartments are troublesome. They are open weekends if you can arrange a pickup instead. Or if you live in a house, what you can do is post a notice on your door with your name, date, tracking number, and signature authorising the driver to leave it at a place of your preference. What happens is he will take that notice back to the warehouse and keep it on file in case there's any dispute about it later. Maybe that's an option for you if you're in a safer neighbourhood.
Those who receive freight from them regularly set up an SNR (signature not required) agreement with them to make your life easier, but you take on the risk if anything goes missing.
I've seen some items reappear and delivered up to half a year later as well.
