if you are not into HBC points they can be converted to airmiles.

500 RBC points = 1000 HBC points = 25 airmiles

so pretty much 25 airmiles for free if you have the RBC points already

i dont have HBC rewards but i collect airmiles so the above works for me.

So you're converting 500 RBC Rewards (worth ~$5) into 25+25=50 Air Miles worth ~$5?

Damn it, I don’t have enough points. Any way to convert HBC points to RBC points and then go through this process?

I must be missing something. 500 RBC Rewards is $5. By converting 500, RBC is (with this promo) giving you another 500 on conversion, so you are converting 1,000 RBC Rewards into 2,000 HBC Rewards. Then you convert the 2,000 HBC Rewards into 50 Air Miles. So it cost you $5 worth of RBC Rewards, and you got $5 worth of Air Miles. So you're not getting anything for free (other than a free conversion of points). What am I missing?

do you convert on the rbc banking site?
Yes. RBC rewards site.

You spend 500 RBC points and get 500 RBC points back. You RBC points won't change but during this transaction, all you can redeem is 1000 HBC points. So yes, it's free 1000 HBC points.

I believe RBC point is one way convert.

Don't make it complicated with Airmiles lol. It's simple. Redeem 500 RBC points for 1000 HBC points and you get 500 RBC points back. So it's free 1000 HBC points. I believe for every 5000 HBC points you can redeem a $25 Bay GC. So basically, that's $5 free GC.

The ad on the RBC Rewards site says "Convert your RBC Rewards points into Hudson’s Bay Rewards points… or vice versa!" But then the Ts and Cs specify:

"You can also auto-convert Hudson's Bay Rewards points to RBC Rewards points** and redeem for travel, merchandise, gift cards or RBC Financial Rewards® vouchers. Your current Hudson's Bay Rewards points will be exchanged for RBC Rewards points and automatically converted going forward. When auto-convert is turned on you won't be able to convert RBC Rewards points to Hudson's Bay Rewards points."

As far as the value of RBC points - I spot checked gift cards (1400 RBC points = $10 Amazon gift card; 3500 RBC points = $25 Tim Hortons gift card) and it look like 500 RBC points = ~$2-4. What can you do with them to make 500 RBC points worth $5?

I only have 1300 RBC points and gain 8 points per month when Netflix is charged to our RBC Visa (we don't use it for anything else, but keep it active to qualify for a full refund on our banking fees), so I've basically wrote our RBC points off as worth nothing. I'll probably do this to get them converted to HBC, which automatically turn into Air Miles for me - better than the nothing I've been getting so far!

But yeah, for anyone else - still gets you free points no matter what, right? As soon as you convert 500 RBC points out of your account, they're replaced with 500 RBC points - so whatever the 500 points you convert out are worth to you as HBC points or Air Miles, it's 100% profit.

Actually, it looks like the way it works is you convert 500 RBC points out of your account, which turns into $2.50 in Air Miles. And then a new 500 points goes into your RBC Rewards account (NOT into HBC/Air Miles), replacing the 500 you converted out. Which means you're up $2.50.

No it goes both ways. But you lose value as well going either way.

1 RBC Reward = 2 HBC Rewards
4 HBC Rewards = 1 RBC Reward

...500 RBC Rewards (worth ~$5)...
What do you do with RBC Points to make 500 = $5? I spot checked gift cards (1400 RBC points = $10 Amazon gift card; 3500 RBC points = $25 Tim Hortons gift card) and in those cases, 500 RBC points = ~$2-4. But I didn't poke around any more than that...

Thanks for updating the OP... it was very confusing... I thought all along that 500 RBC = 500 HBC.... but in reality 500 RBC = 1,000 HBC... so yeah, what you said makes sense now
