RBC Switch - 37500 points - $300 gift cards

Hi everyone,

I've spent 1/2 of yesterday googling and searching RFD but for whatever reason can't find a discussion on the current offer by RBC for switching to their bank. The current offer looks somewhat enticing if you can game it just right.

Does anyone have first hand experience with it? I am interested if there is a way to qualify for the points without signing up for their premium chequing accounts or alternatively if there is a way to use a premium a/c but have a fee waived i.e. perhaps with a min. balance or something.

Offer looks good. On the downside, you have to bank with RBC. The branch closest to where I live is open a full 20hrs a week less than the closest TD. Just sayin'!

Beware of Greeks bearing gifts.

I agree with the previous posters, especially Thalo. {And} Thalo's advice is spot on.

There is another discussion thread about this in the Hot Deals forums (albeit not really active).

I'm considering the switch as I was already looking to refinance my mortgage. The RBC VIP fees are a bit steep even with the rebate IMO. Is RBC flexible with reducing fees, rates, etc when switching and bringing your business to them? I know it probably depends on how much you are bringing but I was just looking to see if anyone knows or has experience. Thanks!
