I just picked up one of these at RCSS in NW Edmonton. They were on clearance and I think they normally go for $65 or so. There are some reviews on amazon, but at $16 I thought I'd take a chance on it.

I have tried so many humidifers. I find the cool mist ones are really useless. It's basically a filter sucking water up & having a fan blowing air to it. Also the filters so expensive to replace. The warm mist ones are basically a heating element boiling water thus creating vapor, which is more effective but the mineral deposit from hard tap water is just too much... you have to clean it with acid almost every two weeks.
The best of the best in humidifiers are the ultrasonic ones. Those are so much quieter and it does not require much maintainance at all. They are not too expensive either. The "Swiss O Air" ones are expensive, over 200 bucks, but there are some of those cheap china made ones are not too bad either. Since my first ultrasonic humidifier i have not gone back. All the old conventional cool mist & warm mist ones all went to the city dump.

I bought 2 units of this same model from staples November last year. The noise from the fan of these are extremely loud. To put it into perspective, open the hood of your running car and that's what it sounds like, I'm not kidding. Might have been the 2 units I got were defective but I'm never buying a honeywell product again.
