in Toronto, rush hour really starts at 3 on a Friday
Don't really have too much comment on the seller's side, but I think it's too much to ask others to avoid him just by this incident since you didn't really lose anything.

READ ME: Do Not Deal With "WaTTz"
Hey guys, I just want to alert the traders here not to deal with the member "WaTTz". He must be a child!!!
I am selling a 160GB Laptop HD over on the buy/sell forums. This guy contacted me the other day expressing interest in my drive. We exchange a few PMs, and the last one stated that he was coming to downtown Toronto today and he wanted me to call him.
So I called him, and explained to him that I need to format the hard drive before selling it to him. I had some sensitive data on it. He said he was already on Queen Street in downtown. I told him that I cannot tell him exactly how many minutes this will take, but it should be about one hour. I told him that to be more convenient, I can drive down to Queen to meet him.
He said to call him when the format is near completion. He calls me just 5 minutes ago at 2:25PM. The format is at around 50%. He tells me how he has to go back home to Mississauga before rush hour. I tell him that rush hour begins at 5PM, and that we still have lots of time to meet up. He asks me why I can't just "stop the format" and give him the HD. I explain to him that the format must be complete, otherwise tomorrow he'll be calling me about why the HD appears dead.
At this point I also tell him that the format is likely going to need about 30 minutes more to complete. He then tells me that it is my loss, and to forget it. I point out that just yesterday I took the HD out of my laptop, and that's why it's not yet formatted. He tells me that I should have been prepared.
So, at this point I told him, "you should have warned me that you were coming so I can have it ready for you, *******!".
Plz guys and girls, do yourselves a favor and don't deal with this child. He has been completely unreasonable even after I offered to drive and deliver the HD to his current location at no additional cost. What kind of a person suggests to cut the power on an HD that's formatting?!_______________

wow....
If he had given me that attitude I would've just literally pulled the plug on the HD and drive and meet him straight up so he would have nothing to say.
You already explained to him that pulling the power will result in hardware corruption, so the ball isn't in your court anymore. Its in his.
He reports the HD dead the next day? laugh in his face. He didn't listen to you.
Nonetheless, I agree very unreasonable and child-like behavior.

So he just forced a meet up time on you? Wow. Thats why I always set meet ups at least 24 hours in advanced.
Also, dont just use a fdisk format. Anyone with a few programs can recover 90% of the data. Download boot and nuke to wipe it for good. It took me 4 days to do a 3 pass wipe on 100gb.

Did you actually setup a date and time to meet or did this guy just randomly show up and ask for the drive?
I can understand if he randomly showed up and you hadn't completed the formatting, but if you had a set date and time and YOU weren't ready, then I can understand his frustration.

If it wasn't ready, then it wasn't ready. No amount of pushing would change that.
Thanks for the heads up.

For a guy who has a lot of transactions, all being hard drives, you'd think he'd know a thing or two about the technology..
even his posts seem a little arrogant though, so its no surprise.
Gotta love newb sellers!_______________
