1. you don't need a credit card. you can pay it like any other bill: online, at the bank or authorized location.
2. depends on the your wiring. it can take 15 minutes or a few hours

Really Really Dumb Question, Sorry :(
I wanna go with shaw cable internet. right now i don't have that great credit rating so no credit cards. mmm... how will I pay? I get my bank cheque deposited in my bank account from work.
Can I write the shaw company checks or do online monthly transfers when the bill is due? right now i'm just leeching off neighbors internet cause its free. now that i have enough i wanna sign up for shaw extreme-i.
last thing.. how long does install take? never had technician in my apartment. kinda worried it might take helluva long time

Depending on the policy of MEDIUM of security deposit (which you might very well be liable to put down if your credit is as bad as you say it is) you might need to pay it with a credit card.
The GOOD thing, is that you can use someone elses credit card. So best case scenario...if they want $200 security deposit, ask a friend/relative/whatever to pay it with their CC and pay them back (or not, if you're that kind of a friend/relative LOL). The monthly bills you can pay in one of any other medium: Cash, Cheque, online, telebanking choice.
For Example..>Rogers Wireless...if you are needed to pay a security deposit for an activation it can ONLY be paid via CreditCard (though some stores can apparently do it in another way...but essentially wha tthey are doing is fronting Rogers the money through their system and you cover it by paying the STORE cash. Point taken?
The problem I see arising is that if your credit is that bad, that they want a $500+ security deposit. That would kind of sting having to fork over that much in cash to a friend/relative to use their credit card to pay it immediately LOL.
Good Luck!
btw, there are no stupid questions....only stupid answers

Why would you want to go with Shaw/Robbers? Why pay $45+ every month for service that is constantly throttled, service goes down oftenly and the worst tech support/customer service.
Why not go with Teksavvy DSL internet? $27.99 + GST = $29.39 for full 5Mbps high speed internet, and thier service never goes down, and not to mention great tech support that is open until 2AM and they send you a invoice to your email that you can pay via cheque or internet banking._______________

Now listen buddy and listen crystal clear.. I chose Shaw because all my friends use it and they have given their signed seal of approval. No problems whatsoever and I'm only using the service to play TF2 so I need the lowest ping possible 5-10ms. Who is Teksavy? I never heard of them plus I am in Surrey which is a suburb of Vancouver. I don't think they offer this service in my area. Even if they did I wouldn't go to them. Shaw is a reputable company with A+ customer service and etreme-I is wicked fast. Friends been using it and not 1 and let me say this again to reiterate my point NOT 1 freaking complaint.
I know my stuff so not to sound like a grumpy old grandpa but back off. Shaw is my final decision and nowhere did I ask about which Internet service I should get. I am going for Shaw with guns ablazing. I always listen to my friends cause their even more computer treky techs than me. If they are recommending me it I listen to them, plain and simple. They know their sh_t!

k 1st off, no need to get all crabby here guy ... The guy is sugesting a VALID ISP that DOES offer for under $30 a 3 laned low latency up to 6-7 meg DSL connect. I know cause I am on it right now, I play FPS's online ( Combat Arms, Battlefield Hero's & ect) & even with 2 im's going, a ventrilo server I'm a admin on & the game running I got low latency no lag in those games @ 1920x1200 with everything on high.
SO ... that being said, contact teksavvy & see what they say. OH & btw if your friends are trying to tell you that cable will give ya low latency's on internet ... ask them to explain to you what happens when your connection fluxuates & keeps going up & down in speed (Hint: LAG/higher latencies on your connection)

Speed fluctuations have nothing to do with latency. If I send you 19771 DVDs in the mail tonight, and I send them overnight, then you're getting 1GB/sec. If I send you 39542 DVDs tonight, overnighted, you're getting 2GB/sec. However, it still takes 1 day to arrive, regardless of the number of DVDs.
However, why would you go with Shaw extreme internet? If you're just playing TF2, then I presume the slower tiers of service would be just as effective, yet cheaper. Speed won't make a difference, only latency. Not to mention though, that you're not getting 5-10ms (think 50+ ms).Last edited by Seiphas; Apr 13th, 2009 at 03:47 AM.

Questions about credit cards and having a technician over to the house? Are you 16?
I was 16 once, and I remember respecting those who offer helpful suggestion, which I may add, is very correct information.
While cable companies typically offer higher bandwidth, you share that bandwidth with your neighbors. I have tried every major ISP in Ontario, and I can tell you that TekSavvy is a breath of fresh air.
This is a phone call with TekSavvy:
"1-877-779-1575"
"Ringgg..."
"..."
"Ringgg..."
"..."
"Hi Thank you for Calling Teksavvy my name is Sharon how can I help you?"
"GASP! A real person after two rings?"
"Haha. Yes, how can I help you?"
"Can I speak with technical support?
"Sure. Just a second please."
"Thank you."
"Ringgg..."
"Tech support. Shawn speaking."
"GASP! A real person?"Last edited by attonbitusira; Apr 13th, 2009 at 09:05 AM.

Wow, that is a pretty ****** attitude. Someone offers you valid advice, and a suggestion, and you turn around and take attitude for people trying to be helpful? That is a great way to get people to help you in the future. Your friends are more tech-savvy than you, but other people are more tech-savvy than your friends. Either way, what you do is your decision, it was a suggestion and you can take it or leave it, but being snotty is not a way to get help in the future.

I have been with Shaw since they took over from Rogers. Yes that means I have had cable internet for 15+ years. I am guessing that this would be longer than you have been alive. I am dropping all my shaw services for Telus as soon as Telus TV HD comes to my house. I am so sick of the piss poor quality and lack of tech support. Yeah tech support is there if you call em, but the ongoing issues are not being fixed and the company is going downhill fast. Intermitted internet outtages. Audio dropouts from TV. Lack of resolution to my issues over the course of multiple tech support calls......Bullcrap marketing gimicks like "No Contract". What a load of garbage. Give me a 30 year contract and I will sign it for quality service. Its bloody tv/internet. It's like hydro these days. Would you sign a 50 year contract if you saved 10 bucks a month for your electricity? I would._______________
