Recent colour coded map showing Vancouver house prices haven't stalled

In Canada,
saying sex is good doesn't make you a hooker. saying you like a bmw doesn't mean you sell cars. saying the canada health act is great doesn't mean you're a socialist or a doctor. and saying real estate should go up doesn't mean you're a realtor or own a piece of property or work in a bank.

Total assessments for all SFPs increased by 11% on the average in the City of Vancouver.
Out of the City of Vancouver’s 20 planning areas, South Cambie saw the highest percent increases of 15% followed by a four-way tie of Single Family Properties in Kensington-Cedar Cottage, Mount Pleasant, Riley Park, and West Point Grey (14%). At 8%, single family properties in Arbutus-Ridge saw the lowest increases.

Sigh, so having only doomists starting threads is not enough anymore? Is there any reason why this can't be posted in the price stalled thread?

Previous quotes of popbottle

"Everyone cares about Vancouver outside of Canada."

"Take New York as an example. If you're not in the finance field and are disinterested in live theatre(opera etc) what would you do there besides work?"

"High housing prices keep taxes lower for everyone else"

"I don't see anything wrong with people jacking prices up. More money for people to spend."

"Yes. If people want to spend money, let them. If someone wants to keep a house vacant, great!!"

"Well the newer 'in' word is 'haters'"

"Japan is losing citizens rapidly."

"besides work because sure you can get a nice salary living in the US but what can you do there besides work?"

"To sum it up- there are many haters around"

"It has to do with the haters saying "I told you so" and "if i can't have it, you can't have it either"

"Many Japanese do dream of moving to Vancouver or Calgary, but don't have enough money to do so"

"People should go hate on insurance brokers"

"saying sex is good doesn't make you a hooker."

Well considering that the rudeness and obscenity wont change anything(American Wedding), and that restoring balance to the Force(Star Wars) is suitable, so yeah.

Many people say the Mayor of Vancouver is a tool, and say because he has an intimate relationship with a Chinese actress 20 years younger than him he's sleeping with the enemy but it doesn't matter to me if it thats the enemy or not. As long as he continues to prohibit things like massive upzoning and micro-suites to be built, Vancouver prices will be steady or higher for a long time to come.

Interestingly, Vancouver is at an all TIME high. This is definitely a peak point, buoyed by historic low interest rates, consumer confidence and desperation  and the falling loonie. Perfect conditions for the all time high.

Despite Vancouver prices going up, in Burnaby, the suburb immediately east of Vancouver has deals to be found such as

#417-9009 CORNERSTONE, Burnaby, $254,990 - concrete condo, 6 years old, 1 bedroom, 5 minute walking distance to a daycare centre, elementary school, typical stainless steel appliances, exercise centre, big transit exchange, shops, services, etc - with maintenance and property taxes of less than $150 each monthly.

I honestly don't understand why people would willingly give power to any government and interfere with a free market, but then again, classic liberalism is out of fashion these days.

We should definitely go free market and privatise healthcare, education, financial markets, and open up all the trade borders. That would be much better.

Unfortunately Surrey(for those who are't in BC) a city 20 minutes from vancouver by rapid rail transit was the first to allow micro suites.

Forget about the immigrants, investors, foreigners, whatever - Vancouvers problem is that a) condo construction in downtown has been deliberately slowed down(ie: discouragement of rezoning commercial to residential) due to a lack of commercial properties b) condo's have a minimum size of around 400 square feet(while that's like living in a box, developers would like to build 300ft or smaller suites to cater to the rental market c) there will always be long time Canadians that refuse to have increased density in their single family neighbours thus keeping prices high.

I'd rather have the market tell me what Canadians want than having the government tell me that. Developers wouldn't want to build something unless they can sell it. I would think developers know the market far better than some government employee.
