most of the color laser toners are around $120 each color... but you can refill the toner by yourself, cost you around $20 each color... for the machine itselves, around $250 for those refurs... OKI and Konica are good brands to buy!

Recommend to me a CHEAP LASER PRINTER, oh gosh.
Hey guys,
My printer just ran out of ink, and it's one of those ol' Lexmark inkjet printers that are not worth buying new ink cartridges for, nor refilling the old ones. I was hoping you guys could recommend to me some nice, cheap laser printers that I'd be using for University, with good-ish quality, but speed being the number one priority.
As for ink cartridges, I don't know how they work for laser printers, but a printer that is fairly popular sounds good, because then I could probably get cheap ink solutions that way.
I appreciate the support guys, especially during, yet another, hectic holiday season. Thanks.

There have been a lot of sales in the past couple years on Samsung printers, bringing them into the 60-80 dollar range. They generally are very easily refillable and mine has been working perfectly since day one. I've refilled it once and it's still going strong, even after a fair bit of printing.
Keep your eyes open for when a Samsung model goes on sale, then google (or search RFD) for references to that model. The results should tell you how easy it is to refill that particular one.

Samesung and brother's b/w laser printers are very good! for toner... samsung is cheaper than the brother...

Samsung 1750 is still going strong with $6.99 refills. Refilled 3 times already
My sis and bro have the exact same model so I refill theres as well with no complaints. If the drum ever dies we'll just buy another brand new samsung that can be refilled Disposable laser printers... who would have thunk it! -sg

Do you want a black and white or just a color? Since it's mostly for university, the color laser printers are probably out of your price range.
Futureshop still has the HP Laserjet 1018 for $89.99..

It's got a starter toner cartridge of about ~1000 pages.
It's very good quality, and my 1012 (an earlier version of it) has never jammed on me and is still going strong after 2,500 pages printed on the original toner cartridge (not the starter one that comes with the 1012).
Only con is the HP Laserjet cartridges include the drum, along with an electronic control chip meaning they aren't really economically refillable. New toner cartridges go for ~70 for HP branded ones, and ~60 for "HP-compatible" generic ones. Reply With Quote

If you only need black & white then staples has 4 lasers for under $100.
Two Samsung, one HP, on brother. I'd stay away from the brother though. I'm pretty sure the toners for all the models are $85-95. Should be more than enough for school purposes._______________

Wow, thanks for the quick input guys, I totally wasn't expecting that!
What do you guys think about the Samsung ML-2510 monochrome? I tried looking for the M1750 as mentioned (I don't know if you can beat sub- $10 refills!), but it wasn't available on the futureshop.ca website.
However, I found this little number, and when compared to the mentioned HP Laserjet 1018, seems better. I compared all the technical specifications, and admittedly, though I barely know what the terminologies mean, the Samsung 2510 sounds superior (and cheaper!).
What do you guys know about this model? And would I also be able to retrofit like $10 refills on this baby?

u can find those refills in many chinese computer store... itz cheaper...

Canada Computers is selling the Samsung ML-2010 printer for $70 after rebates. It's a fast and compact monochrome laser printer.
I have 2 of these printers at home and both have been PERFECT. Over a year down the road with average usage, both are still running on their factory half-filled toner which is awesome!
The only thing I have to warn you about is that the printer does NOT come with a USB cable, so you'll have to buy one ($5 big deal)._______________

it's not CanadaComputer's own rebate, they don't offer any of their own so it's always the manufacturer's. Even the address on the pdf is to Samsung themselves. I've sent my rebate in and got a cheque back in about three months.

From my experience, Brother toners are expensive unless you order them online. The toner for my HL 1435 easily costed me $130 bucks taxes in. In this respect, perhaps it is more economical to just buy a new laser printer when your toner runs out LOL. However, I believe in saving the environment and trashing old laser printers does not help our friends in Africa and south asia who are being poisoned by our ewaste :P.
However you get what you paid for, and one cartridge easily lasted over the 6000 page mark. The print quality of my brother was also very good.
But if I were you, I'd research the price of the toner first.. very expensive stuff._______________
