I hear 'Taka' Steak & Sushi in PEEL somewhere is AMAZING..
They've got pictures of like 50 celebrities (I've heard.. I've never been convinced to go, I don't like raw fish)
So good they only open like 2 or 3 days a week, and are usually FULL of people that 'appreciate such excellent food' as my friend puts it..
I've never been, so don't ask me, but if its only open 2 days a week and has been there over 10 years, they must be good

Recommendation for cheap/decent sushi takeout in Mississauga?
As the title says. Thanks.

I just googled Taka Steak and Sushi. Apparently, it's in Brampton and it's also closed now. Can anyone confirm that it's closed?
Well anyways, for cheap/decent sushi, I go to Umi Sushi and Hinote Sushi. Hinote is a bit more expensive, but have better food overall. You can find them on foodpages.ca to see how far away they are from you.
Sushi One at the Mavis plaza is also opening soon.Last edited by Takada; Aug 24th, 2005 at 11:09 AM.

Aug 24th, 2005 01:00 PM #4It's in Brampton and it's been closed since May. Lousy location for a restaurant - on the east side of Kennedy south of Queen buried in behind a laundromat, a failed sub shop and a failed donut shop. Kinda skid row, pretty much invisible from the road. Too bad. Had tatami rooms which was kind of cool.

Only other Japanese place in Brampton is Toshi, on the west side of Hwy 10, south of Bovaird, opposite the Walmart. A decent spot, but sure not local to Mississauga.
Go here: Toronto Area Sushi Society. GTA sushi restaurant listings and reviews.
As an aside, just up the road on Kennedy here in Brampton is Falafel Garden (very good Middle Eastern food) and further up still, past Queen is Pho Peter which is my favorite Vietnamese place.Last edited by wiggy; Aug 24th, 2005 at 01:03 PM.

He said -cheap- and decent and that's what Umi is.

Yes, your rant was several months ago on your AYCE experience. I have tried Sushi Tei and I don't find the difference to justify the higher price. For someone asking for a -cheap- and decent sushi in the first place, I doubt he will either. For Hinote Sushi, yes it is justifiable because the prices are not that much higher at lunch and they make excellent sushi.
By the way, several people in that topic that you mention thought that Umi was good(though not as good as Tei). Yes, you had a horrible experience. I think almost every sushi restaurant hands out a couple of horrible experiences once in a while, and those usually result in the loudest complaints on web forums. Anyways, he can try it out and if he doesn't like it, then he can always go to Tei.Last edited by Takada; Aug 25th, 2005 at 11:27 AM.

Ya, I agree on the pricing a Tei is more then Umi, but around that area there isn't much choice. Plus the atmosphere at Tei is much better then the dimmer Umi.
I went to Umi on a Saturday night at 7-8 and it was almost empty. What does that say about the business?

Takeout there's small store that does a lot of takeout business on Confederation near Sqr1, it's the plaza with the Dairy Queen.

There's a business-looking building on the NE corner of Dixie and Eastgate Pkwy. You'll see a Domino's sign on the outside of the building. In it, theres a food court with a *** place that has decent prices for sushi. I'm not sure of the building is open 7 days a week.

Oh, also, there's Sushi Park in the Woodchester Mall on Dundas between Glen Erin and Winston Churchill. They are mainly a takeout place but also have a few stools to sit on and eat. Prices are a little lower than sit-in places and quality of sushi is a little less also.
