Recommendations for a monopod with legs

I'm looking for a monopod that can support a Nikon D40 with a lens like the 70-200mm VR (yeah, I know...don't laugh! ). I'd prefer something that is relatively lightweight (not sure if this is possible for a good one) and compact when retracted. I would also like something with legs so I do not have to keep holding it. Maximum height is not that important as I'm only 5'2". My budget is about $100 or so but I'd consider paying more for something worthwhile. Thanks.

I believe Vistek carries a new brand of tripod/monopod made of carbon fibre. They're made in china but can't beat the price for what you get. Call them up and ask them. Otherwise if you want something that last it's either Manfrotto or Gitzo.

Forget about monopod with legs, it has very limited purpose. Learn how to use a monopod properly or use a tripod instead.

I see. I have never actually seen these until now.

I do agree that the extra legs do limit the functionality of a monopod. I mean, you can't even pan properly. IMO, the only advantage would be lighter weight compared to an equivalent tripod.

i actually went to buy that monopod yesterday night, manfrotto 682. it was 129.99 at downtown cameras.

i can't say it wasn't an impulse buy...but it was pretty decent when i used it last night at the lightsaber battle at ROM. wasn't too stable even with the legs out since the center of gravity is so high up and the legs are supported on the base only. i got some pretty sharp images still.

but for 140+ taxed, i might have been better off with a light tripod. I'm still struggling if i should go return this since the clerk said if i tried it and don't like it they have a 10 day return policy
