Recommended Luggage Sets?

Hi guys,

I absolutely know zero about luggage sets, and what to look for. I've been shopping around for a 3 or 4 piece set for my wife to use when she goes back to the Philippines this April.

It's so confusing. I went to Costco, and they have a 4-piece Swiss Gear set for $269.99 with a $100 off now marked down to $169.99 only until March.

But then, I looked in this week's flyer for Zeller's and Sears, and they have all kinds of luggage sets for 60 to 70% off.

Here's my delima. Which brands are good? They list Swiss Gear, Eddie Bauer, Sampsonite, Roots, and SOOO many others.

If it wasn't for the movie "Dumb and Dummer", I wouldn't even know who Sampsonite was.....

Any suggestions?

I bought a 25'' Swiss Gear luggage from Target at the States, loved it so much and bought additional 21'' and 28'' luggage.

Swiss Gear has 10 yr limited warranty, if I am not mistaken. Go for it, I love mine so much.

Just a warning - avoid the really cheap sets/pieces. They will break on you after 1-2 flights.

hi. i am also looking for luggage on my trip to europe. since i am going to take alot of budget flights where you have to pay for baggage, i only want to bring one check in luggage.

how are these? i was planning to go down to the state to get them. they say they are the lightest in the world

The SG luggage set at Target ranges from $80 to $110 USD. They rarely go on sale. I was living in the States for 1.5 yr and the most I have seen is $10 discount. So I really think $169 for a set is a steal.

Hands Down I must say the swiss gear luggage sets are the ultimate... Had mine set for a few years Durable as no other i've owned been to caribbean, south america 5 countries still no issues... Mine they very expandable, lots of pockets and straps, zippers very rugged... and what no other set ive seen does is behind each of my suite case the back unzip to reveal very strong and comfortable straps so if needed you can throw one up on you back as a back pack should hands be tied up pulling other case... Highly recommended swiss gear cases.

Yes, avoid! Specifically, the set I had experience with was "Protocol" (house brand) from Sears for about $100 regular price. This one looks to be about the same quality.

That Costco set only made it home twice from Texas since December (hubby flies there and back weekly)

He has since upgraded to the Victorinox line. He has their Laptop bag, 20" and the Rolling Garment bag in the Werks 2.0 and 4.0 line. Amazing warranty but pricey.

He is actually looking at Andiamo too, their warranties are similar and their bags are amazing (from speaking to fellow travelers)

I myself still like my Heys, but I no longer travel as much as he does.

If you want a good quality luggage set, go with Heys.
I've had the same luggage for over five years, and it's still in great condition.

Probably a little more on the costly side, but worth the value.

If you are close enough to the Shopping Channel's outlet in Toronto on Orfus d. you may find a really good deal there.

I own the Costco Swiss Gear set. No problems so far. I picked it because there are holes in the pullers on the zippers (also, that is a buttload of luggage for the price). This allows me to lock the zippers closed. Yes it can be forced open, but at least people won't be lifting things or putting things in my luggage while I am in the airport.
