Recommended printers for students?
So I'm going to be in residence and I'm looking out for a printer that is able to print, scan, and copy. Any suggestions for reliable printers that won't run out of ink fast?

Get a laser printer if you're worried about ink. I just bought a new printer a few days ago. It was a Samsung laser printer from Best Buy that was on sale for $200. Has copier and scanner as well.

Do you think getting a single colour cartridge is better or seperate colour cartridges for each colour is more cost-efficient? The one you had suggested had seperate ones and it looks pretty costly to me.

I use a Canon MP240 with Print/Scan/Copy. You can get one for around $25-35
Black ink refills are $9 and they print a few hundred pages

Another question... Would I need to ever use colour for printing or would monochromatic be all I need for dorm rooms?

No Lexmark Printers... ever
if you need colour buy a 3 in 1 Inkjet
if you think you can get away with black only.. buy a 3 in 1 laser jet (Brother is my favourite)
dont ever buy a colour laser!!! ... from personal experience
I used to like Epson for inkjet. But I have kind of switched to Canon though.. I like the Pixma line better than the Epson Artisian's or Sylus' I use at work. At home i have a budget MP190 and think its great. I found the epson's ran out of ink faster than they should. Also, the Artisian uses 6 colours rather than the typical 4 CMYK and replacing all of them gets expensive.
Ink is expensive for all printers. I do believe though that HP has the cheapest ink. Unfortunately they are the only company i've never used a printer from so i can't comment on them..
And dont spend more than $200 unless you're getting into the professionally phtography business.
anyways good luck!
