Recording hockey games, is a gopro the answer?

I am recording live hockey and badminton games and am currently using a gopro hero 5 with a tripod. I find that I get the fish bowl effect and the videos are grainy. The videos that I see online are much clearer. I also like to slow the video down during playback but it's a choppy at 120fps. Should I upgrade to the hero 6 or should I get something else? Thanks.

Someone I know uses a cheap $100 action camera from Amazon. I think it's 60fps @ 1080p, not sure about the lens angle. Comes out pretty clear and crisp. As far as I know, most people are using older gopros and cheaper action cameras to record.
