I picked up a Denon AVR-988 the other day, and thought I might be able to use the Pre-Amp outputs (which are RCA connections) to the Spherex speakers. However, that didn't work because according to Denon, it's essentially feeding a low-volt signal.

So to make a long story short, I went to The Source and found Nexxtech Speaker Cables Phono Plug to Speaker Wire for $10 a piece (24' length which is the only available length). Part # is 4202457N.

It'd been driving me nuts for months now, and I thought I'd share the find for those who've had the same experience.
Denon is right. The pre-amp outs would be a low level, non-amplified signal and the speakers would be inaudible. It's tempting because the spherex speaker wires have those RCA ends that look like should plug into a pre-amp RCA socket. But it won't work cause you need amplification going to the speakers.

Now if I'm understanding correctly what you did, a free alternative would have been to simply cut off the RCA ends on the spherex wires and connect the bare wire to the receiver's speaker terminals.

Your method probably looks nicer, but costs $10 x 5 = $50
My method is an RFD-friendly $0
