Despite refurbished being stated as tested and should be working as a brand new unit, would it be advisable to use a refurbished/ warranty replacement unit PSU?
I've been reading about how important capacitors are and the working life they have. Anyone know if those components are taken into account when a unit is refurbished even if those caps weren't the source of initial defect? I'd hate to receive a unit with caps that have been run for 3 years which just needed a minor cable fix or something.
PSU model itself is a OCZ 600W Modxstream. Was thinking of just picking up a new psu since I would have to pay for the RMA shipping myself but it turns out the OCZ RMA facility is close by in Markham.

I have no problems using good branded used PSU's. One of my machines has an Antec 550w PSU in use for 7+ years, at 8+ hours a day. My main machine is using an Antec 650w PSU I bought used without problems for the past year. If the price is good enough, it's worth the gamble.

Upon reading more personal user reviews on the model, it seems that there is a slight percentage trend of OCZ PSU's crapping out around their 3 yr warranty mark. Mine itself crapped out at 2.5 yrs. My rig itself isn't exactly power hungry, running on a backup old antec 430 atm or have heating issues. I do let it idle alot though, instead of possibly turning it off I guess.
Dunno if its the caps or what but the reviews I saw did cause me to worry a bit. From what I read so far, its the quality of the caps which can distinctly separate the good/reliable psus(seasonic/corsair) from the avg-> sub par ones.Last edited by icecoal; Jan 23rd, 2013 at 06:14 PM.
