most likely it's just the installation considering it's Futureshop that we're talking about. Car starters are like $150 alone, and $149 + tax for install is a ripoff

I was there today and the $149.99 price does include installation. This is confirmed at the Heartland Centre location in Mississauga.

Mind you, this is a pretty cheap starter. I wouldn't recommend it as its not 2-way.

I think you misread the context of the word "cheap". I think the poster was implying low quality and/or features and/or etc, rather then inexpensive.
