Replacing a broken motherboard w/o reinstall

Hi, I have a broken motherboard that I am in the process of replacing. I read up on how to replace a mobo without reinstalling, but my computer does not even turn on.

How can I change the mobo without having to go through device manager and disabling my IDE controller?

I'm going from AMD to AMD, MSI 6712 to Asus A7V8X. (I know, old.)

you should be ok doing this. Just boot up to safe mode and update all the relevant drivers.

I don't think you need to do any special ... Both mobos have the same VT8235 soundbridge.

Before you install the new motherboard ... pull your Hard Drive out of this unit, install it as a 2nd drive in another computer and do a backup

or the next post you make will be ... "I installed a new motherboard and it wouldn't boot so I had to reformat my hard drive to reload the OS ... how do I get my data files back?"

I already have back-ups .

I did this type of swap before from an eMachine that use gigabyte AMD motherboard to a Foxconn AMD MB b/c there is no other choices. I swapped the motherboard and first thing, I booted into SafeMode and the system did a "Found New Hardware" etc. After everythings are settled down, I rebooted the computer and additional "Found New Hardware" took placed. Afterward.. everything worked fine.
