RESUME QUESTION - Finance
My education section with my university degree and 4 CSI courses takes up about half my resume see below:
BACHELOR OF BUSINESS MANAGEMENT AND ORGANIZATIONAL STUDIES (FINANCE) - 2003-2007
UNIVERSITY OF WESTERN ONTARIO
- Specializing in Finance and Administration
- Courses in finance, managerial accounting, micro and macroeconomics and marketing
FUTURES LICENSING COURSE (FLC) - 2008
- Specializing in exchange traded futures and future options contracts
CONDUCT AND PRACTICES HANDBOOK COURSE (CPH) - 2007
- Knowledge of the rules and ethics which govern the daily practices of investment professionals
- Topics cover include regulatory environment, dealing with client accounts and ethics/ethical codes
DERIVATIVES FUNDAMENTAL COURSE (DFC) - 2006
- Knowledge of investment products specifically related to futures, forwards, exchange traded and OTC options
- Understanding of options and forwards in a corporate and personal investment setting
CANADIAN SECURITIES COURSE (CSC) – 2005-
- Certified under the CSI for the Canadian Securities Course (CSC) and renewed with licensing 2009
My employment history takes the rest and I have a little room at the bottom. Should I add two things for extra curricular or leave it empty? Are finance resumes suppose to be one page..? IS this overkill, none of htose are really that impressive or hard to get....should i just be listing them, even on one lnie and expanding else where....????????

1-2 lines for EC. 1 line for skills: Excel, math software and etc.
add GPA/awards/clubs/affiliation under UWO if you haven't already
Just make font 1/2 size smaller

You do not need to put every license and the explanation. Simply list it. Heck I have seen on resumes people put simply:
Linceses: CPH, CSC, DFC etc... as one line.
Yes Finance resumes should only ever be 1 page.

First your degree what is it a B.Comm or a BBA?
If so then under education list the following:
BBA, Finance & Administration London, Ontario 2007
University of Western Ontario
Your certificates can be placed under their own heading i.e.
Certification:
CPH Location Taken Date/Renewal Date if applicable
Organization that Certified you
I don't see why you need to list any information regarding the nature of the courses you took if you are applying for jobs in finance. These are all courses I am assuming that everyone either needs to have at some point so a hiring manager would know what the abbreviations mean. There isn't any reason to limit yourself to one page, two pages is perfectly fine.

You dont need to explain what they are. As someone said:
Licenses/certifications: CSC, etc..
People in finance know what those are.

Ahh..
I kind of got the answer I didnt want to hear, now I have to fill the other space somehow
do you guys have a hobby/extracur. section? if so how far back do you go. Would you include something as trivial as "started a rec team in university" or is it more for real awards/accomplishments?
Thx...
So it will be like
Certifications: CSC (200X), DFC (XXXX)..............
should i at least spell them out>? I dont think everyone will know what htey are....

If they are in financial world and have any clue, they will know what they are ..
its not like you did medical courses and are using their acronyms on your financially geared resume.

Fill it up with high quality stuff that will impress. I'm guessing you have none, in that case, it's better to have nothing than have crap that further trivializes your resume more.

Finance reusmes should *always* be one page. If you have problems filling up one page, then you're in big trouble

Lose the bullets that explain what those designations are, leave the opened space for high quality extracurriculars/volunteering/achievements. If you don't have them, just leave it blank.

Unless you know the company is big on those things, my advice is no.. eg. if you're applying to CIBC and you've volunteered at their Run for the Cure events then it's relevant.
