Retail Business in Ontario
I am in the process of moving from the US to Canada. I own a car dealership in the US which I still want to keep as a passive investment. I am thinking of going into the retail business such as gas station or even something like bulk barn. For gas station I was thinking of buying it direct from an existing owner rather than franchising. It appears that there is a long waiting list for the franchise gas stations. For bulk barn I think the only option is to get a new franchise. Does anyone have any experience with these kinds of businesses? I will appreciate any suggestions or recommendations. Thanks!

Check Canadian Tire's website for info on becoming an owner/op. Other options are Esso , Shell, PetroCanada and the independents.
If you're interested in automotive-related franchises, check this link.
Even if there is a long waiting list I'm sure they will bump you up if your experience is something that they value.

For the million dollar franchise fee, a Tim Hortons outlet could quickly recoup that cost in a couple years.
