What's the point of paypaling $3? You're going to lose money on fees...wouldn't it make sense to just have the sender cover the cost of shipping?

RFD Cyber-caching
This is a continuation of this thread happened a little while ago. But it got so big that hardly anyone new would get in there to see.
A brief explanation about this Cyber-caching thing... Much like Geo-caching, the idea is we pass 3 items along to the next RFD member.
- Sender sends the package containing 3 items (see the old thread and the pic below)
- Receiver takes a picture of the 3 items, then keep one of them
- Add an item of his/her own to make the total numebr back to three
- Start a new thread and find the next receiver (ask mod to merge to the old one if possible later on)
- Repeat
The process doesn't cost you anything, except for the postage to the next person. It s a fun little thing to pass around to see how long it can circle around the RFD community.
So far, it goes like:
URban Poet
-> Eon90210 (- Multitool + cellphone cover)
-> felixdd (- somesort of zippered pouch + Horseshoe keychain)
-> Kazaam (- Velvet bag + PizzaHut CD Weekend at Bernies)
-> NDman (- ??? + ???) (next person will find out)

So who's next? Hopefully this thing can go on for a while.

No. $3 direct transfer. No fee involved, unlike ebay. Also, it'll give you a bit of incentive to find the next receiver to recover the $3. So basically you exchange one item, and pay the shipping essentially (you pay $3, and receive $3)

there is still a ~3% paypal charge on a direct money transfer from sender to receiver.

B40's right...it occurred to me from the very beginning that the $3 is useless and the only ppl benefiting is paypal and Canada Post.
However I didn't want to make a point of it because it'll make me sound like I didn't want to pay $3 to receive the item, and I didn't want to impose on anyone to take the $3 hit so that everyone else doesn't lose out. The $3 is simply there as an artifact from the original transaction between Urbanpoet and eon -- because originally it wasn't intended to be cybercaching but rather just a traditional deal

yeh.. it would make sense just to take one item, add 1 item, and pass it down.

Ok. I'll bite the bullet and eb first to eliminate the $3 thing. Just be honest, and pass it down to the next person, guys. So who's next?
How much did you guys pay for postage anyway? KAzaam sent it in an big envelop and he put $2.50 for it. I have a feeling that I can downsize it a bit, no?
First post edited.
So basically what you need to do if you want to be in is post a message here saying that you are in. The PM me your address and it'll be on the way to you. Simple as that. C'mon, who's next?Last edited by NDman; Jun 4th, 2005 at 10:13 AM.

Is the point to come up with 3 items that no one wants?
anyways, you guys should include in a piece of paper or something and each person can write something on it (like the log book in geo-caching)

Jun 4th, 2005 02:19 PM #12That's what it seems like so far. Just look at the current 3 items.

the person should only take a picture of the item they took out...thus the mystery of what's left is still, well, a mystery. That would be more fun.

Jun 4th, 2005 05:57 PM #14If you do that...can you put in the names of ppl before you too? So Urbanpoet...eon...me...kazaam...etc. etc.
