Hi all. I am looking to get into biking (road/some gravel trails) and am considering a new 2016 Kona Dew Plus for $800. Anybody have any opinions? Im just really nervous to drop that much on a bike.. but i currently have a 2005 norco katmandu mountain bike that isn't doing the trick.. are there better/cheaper options out there that may work for me?>

Thanks.

how is this different?
More relaxed geometry, more comfortable, less tooth chattering. disc brakes, thru axles, 28c tires etc.

My TCR was at about 16 pounds even, maybe a bit less. This is 18 pounds. I just put an Ultegra crank on it yesterday and I am considering ordering carbon wheels to get it closer to 17.

I got a new road bike., I sold my 2012 Giant TCR Advanced SL3 and bought a 2016 Scott Solace 10 Disc.

The TCR was awesome but way too much of a race bike for my needs.

Full Ultegra, hydraulic disc brakes, thru axles front and rear.

Nice bike!

What crankset is that on there?

how did the Norco not work out for you?

The Kona looks like a nice bike, you should take it for a test ride? Those kinds of bikes are great for city riding and can even handle some packed dirt paths

Shimano R550.
Whole bike was Ultegra except crank and cassette.
I hate when manufacturers do that to save a bit of cash.
Fixed now though

hate that too. My Trek was like that and it definitely bothered me (especially the R500 crank....that thing didn't belong at all)...first world problems :)

Holy bejebus, I experienced my first accidental clip-in today. Came to a stop on the gravel shoulder, and OUCH. Landed on loose gravel and my knee's skin got torn up pretty badly.
IMO, accidental clip-in is worse than forgetting to unclip because of the confusion as opposed to realisation of what happened.

Think I led the RFD Strava Club for the first time the past 2 weeks. 1004km on my 2 off weeks. Very pleased with myself. Putting those expensive upgrades I mentioned above to good use :)

Hey guys I’m looking to get a bike. I’ve been researching for a few days and verdict is that I should avoid Canadian Tire and Walmart bikes. I’ve been eyeing a hybrid bike and most of my bike use will be in the city. I’m looking to get a bike that will last me many years and something that can take a beating.

My budget is around $500 and one bike that looks like it can suit my needs is the Giant Escape 3: Giant

What do you guys think? Summer is almost over, so should I just hold off and wait for some deals? When’s the best time to buy a bike?

That is miles better than a Crappy Tire bike. It's not a particularly hot deal though. You can probably find something cheaper that's better on clearance.

I'm looking to pick up a road bike. Looking mostly for longer group rides in Gatineau park, and Rideau Lakes area. Might eventually use it for a tri.

Found a used Ridley Fenix CR50 (~500km) for $1200, Trek Madone 3.1(like new) for $1200, Trek Emonda ALR 5 (lots of miles) $1200.

Any of these seem like decent deals? the Madone has some Tiagra parts, the other two are almost all 105.
How can an ant carry twenty times its body weight, but root beer floats are still delicious?
