Hey guy I bought a Johnson matthey 1/2 oz 9999gold bar from a local gold dealer couple days ago. When I got home and took a closer look I realized some red spots on the gold. I also noticed the right side of the front looks damaged and has a lot of scratches on it. I am new to bullion investing and I think the owner of the store realized because I asked a lot of questions. I'm wondering if he sold me a fake piece or just the worst one he had lying around because he knew I wouldn't recognize or know better. Please let me know guys, I'm stressing out as I spent a lot of money on this bar. Ill take ANY advice for future bullion investments as I have a lot to still learn.

Here are the pics
That's a pretty rare bar. There's a sold on ebay that looks very similar. Mostly scammers will deal with the more common 1 oz. versions. Having said that I couldnt find any fake listings for half oz. bars. Only way to be sure is to have it tested.

Gold corrosion is problematic - you could try and weigh it. 1/2 oz plus a bit for the plastic. If way over or under, not a good sign.

Any reason why you don't? Their security feature seems pretty quick and nifty and easily demonstrated to even people not familiar with PM.

Hoping it does soon. The 500 count maple leafs were on sale before too but that's way beyond my credit card limits.
