Rma
About to RMA a SSD back to Corsair which is located in the US and was wondering if anyone have any experience in regards to paying duties/taxes/brokerage fees on a warranty exchange? Do they notify on the paperwork that it is a repair/warranty so I don't have to repay all the taxes/duties?

I couldn't find the original article I read, but I found this:
http://daniel-workman.suite101.com/d...-goods-a221297
Returned Goods with Repairs under Warranty
Goods returned to the US for repairs under warranty may re-enter Canada duty free under tariff classification code prefix 9820.00.00.
Any customs duty savings will not apply to repairs under warranty performed in countries other than the U.S.
Repairs must have been done under the terms of the warranty, or else duties and taxes will apply to the value of the repairs including parts and labor costs.
Sources: Canada Border Services Agency's online D memorandums and personal class notes from Dr. Harmeet S. Kohli’s lectures on Canadian Customs Procedures and Regulations.

No need to pay custom fees. Consideirng that you paid nothing for the item they can't really charge you anything anyway.
I have RMA through Corsaif and the process was pretty smooth._______________
You read it. You can't unread it.

If you get hit with duties on the return, then you can fill in a form and submit the RMA proof (ie. emails, send receipt with RMA in address).
They will refund the duties/taxes. Not sure if they will refund the handling charges associated with processing the original duties/taxes.

To either place! Corsair will most likely refund you because you already bought the item and why would you get hit with customs fee when It's already been paid for..
Also you can show It to Canadian Customs showing that It's an RMA and been paid for already.
Either place I think you would get your $ back If you were to get hit with fees._______________

No garantee that they will cover customs and fees. Here, from their limited warranty info:
http://www.corsair.com/support/warranty/You may be required to pay shipping and handling charges, as well as any applicable tariffs, duties, taxes, or other fees
As i said before when i requested a RMA part (a computer case side panel) UPS charged me 15$ on a 29.99$ worth part.
Contacted Corsair and lost lots of time.
So make sure they fill the papers right before they send it back !Last edited by Coz4k; Feb 9th, 2012 at 06:46 PM.

Just to add to my other posts in this thread, I have RMA'd to WD and OCZ and have never been hit with duties.
It's been a number of years since I've had to do it myself though (perks of NCIX VIP membership), but I remember part of the RMA label the manufacturer sent me stated in bold "Warranty Repair". The "Warranty Repair" on the label was probably for the tax exemption thing I mention above.
I had to pay was the shipping to them, and they paid the shipped it back.
