After hearing all of these horror stories, I would never use a Canadian SIM outside of Canada.

A friend told me about the cheap domestic (US) paygo data with this T-Mobile SIM a while ago. You reminded me of it. Any experiences? We're going to NYC in a few weeks and if it's cheap (and a decent amount of included data) I'll pick one up for the road. I have a Galaxy Nexus so it'll be cool.
But ya OP, always buy a local SIM. If he does (or plans to) travel a lot and use his smartphone, pick up a pentaband (like the Galaxy Nexus) and have your bases covered everywhere with high speed cellular data.

It's perhaps important to ask what Rogers' out-of-pocket costs are for providing service to its Canadian customers in Germany.

Most travellors know that if they show up at the airport and demand to get on an airplane without booking in advance - they're gonna pay a huge premium. Rogers service is no different. The charges for offshore use of Rogers services are clearly disclosed to customers in the rate guides provided at the time of service sign-up.

You'll have to forgive Mark. He's a shameless big telecom shill.
Just because somebody outlines something in a contract doesn't mean it's reasonable.

This kind of ***** is exactly why I stick to wifi or buy a local SIM when I'm traveling overseas.

Could HAVE, not could OF. What does 'could of' even mean?

Meh, no story here, ignorant customer. I use rogers abroad to roam, i get a datapack. They warn you via txt when you arrive of the roaming charges and again when you start using data with simple and free option to text back to get a roaming pack.
OP's son should go back to school as a student to learn to read

Yes, get a sim card from Tmobile for 10 bux, then add 10 dollars or how ever much you need to it.
They have a 3 day (24h) plans; $1,$2 and $3.
$1 gets you unlimited calling
$2 get you unlimited calling and unlimited 2g data
$3 get you unlimited calling and 200mb of 4G, then it downgrades back to unlimited 2g
*unlimited calling is nationwide. There's trick to signup for google voice, so you can make calls back to Canada for free., but i cant remember the instructions
